Subject:   Boat Lift Cable Snapped
Date:   7/19/2016 11:35:26 AM

We had a "mechanical failure" when our boat lift cable snapped on Saturday and threw our boat sideways into the dock. My husband was standing next to it, lowering the lift when it snapped. I heard it from inside the house, it sounded like a bomb went off. I looked out the window and saw our boat nose down on its side hanging in the air and couldn't see my husband. Thank the Lord the cable didn't hit him. The lift and cables are a little over a year old. There are 4 cables lifting the boat, each cable is rated to hold 9,000 lbs. The boat weighs around 4,200 lbs. We were under capacity, it should have never happened unless there was a bad batch of cable. The dock company owner was there in under an hour. Just a friendly reminder to check your cables whether they are new or old for any signs of damage or fray. We are lucky no one was injured and have minimal boat damage.
