I'm planning a long boat ride from the Kowaliga area to the Hwy 280 bridge and north. It's been decades since I've been there. Please give me a description of the area and interesting areas to visit.

Thanks

Peanut Point. Not north of 280 but not much out of the way.  Boiled Pnuts for sale, brought right to the boat.

That will be a great trip!  Me and the boss did it last year.  One weekend we went to the west side all the way above the narrows and the next we went up river to the shoals.  Great trip in both directions.  Too much to see in one day but clustered together near the aforementioned Peanut Point is Big Beach,  pirate island,  the brand new princess island, flag island, Eagle island,  and graveyard island.  Of course you have Wind Creek Park,  Dare Park and camp ASCA also.  North of that is just beautiful river with little development and virtually no traffic. Then at Jay bird landing/the shoals there are usually a bun h of folks scattered about enjoying the water.  Good luck. You will need a fast boat to see all that in a day.  It is 31 nautical miles from the dam to the shoals but worth every minute and drop of fuel IMHO.

Just a word of caution about peanut point. We went there for the first time this year. I ate a bag of the boiled peanuts and got sick as a dog that night.  Not sure if it was the peanuts or what but I won't be returning.

Thanks for the input. I left this morning and watched the sunrise while cruising on a slick calm lake. I wasn't certain of the islands mentioned because there was no activity at that time of the day. Once I passed under the 280 bridge I saw one boat near the end of the "road", or the shoals, I guess, since the river turned to rocks and rapids. Beautiful scenery all the way. I have a land ownership app called Landglide and I noticed that most of the undeveloped land is either Russell or APCO., as expected. The water color turned a little browner compared to the main body of the lake. There were several trot lines along the upper area of the river. It took 1.5 hrs one way from the amphitheater area cruising an average of about 25 mph.  It was a great trip and I recommend it. Thanks again for the advice.

Dang you missed an opportunity since you left that early.  Sunrise facing doctors island is a beautiful site.  There is a cross facing East that is covered in mirror tiles that  catch the rising sun.

Glad to have you visit the great land of restaurants, TV cable that works, towns with red lights, and lake water without a boat throwing huge wakes every hundred yards.  Now that you know the secret, don't go around on that side telling everybody they need to come visit!  Keep all those unlearned boat aimers (so called drivers) on your side!

Must have been something else that got you sick. We go there almost every weekend with no problems. Love their cajun peanuts and well worth a second try.

Great area of the Lake! My buddies up that way call it NOCR - North Of Chimney Rock!! I did that trip a year or so ago with some buddies. My mistake was not sticking to the west side of the river once I went under the railroad trestle.

You have to "river run" it. Always stay away from the inside of bends. The channel is usually from the middle to the outside of bends. Stay in the channel and you will go far .....
