There is an email going around saying the Marine patrol will be boarding every boat this weekend checking everything. Saying additional patrol boats have been brought in. Anyone heard this? I feel sure I am in compliance but soulds like a hassle.

Bring it.

Search me all you want; I am in compliance.  Safety is job 1.

I haven't seen an ugly incident on a boat in the water develop slowly.  It's always a OMG.  I plan accordingly.

Just wanted to post that we were stopped by the Marine Patrol this afternoon.  The two officers could not have been any more professional polite or nice.  This post is to say thank you to the officers and keep up the good work.

I don't get it.  If one is in compliance with the law there is nothing to be concerned about.  I would welcome a 100% check of every boat floating on Lake Martin.  Thanks for your post.

Apparently it was true as there were six marine trooper boats in Parker Creek late this evening...

Bravo, except they were probably prompted by complaints from the other restaurants on the lake that Herb was unfairly competing by using an open atmosphere, swimming area for the kids, other games for kids and big kids, great drinks and wonderful, reasonably priced food....obviously unfair competition (not).

Yes we were there Fri. evening and watched as a pair of marine patrol officers came up and ate. When they left they preceded west looped back north and stoped in the cove north of the landing and stopped.  to which i assume was to have a vantage point to watch the comming ang goings of the Landing.  Much the same that happened when Castaway reopened several years ago.

You don't think they might have been raiding LNG's garden and grabbing some fresh maters do you?

Not a chance to get any maters from that garden.  Thinking about installing a cool shade structure.  This HEAT is brutal!

It use to be law enforcment had to have probable cause before they could legally pull someone over.   i wonder what they were using for their searches.   Could it be revenue producer  since G and F stated they operate on less than 5% of fines.

My understanding has always been that they can board any vessel at any time for a safety check.  They are certainly welcome on any boat I am driving at any time.  I don't have a problem with them checking g for under age drinking either.  I will however debate at what age drinking should be "legal".

We were stopped - the officers were very nice and cordial. They did issue a citation for a kill switch not being attached to my husband. Which was wierd... we have never even thought about it. That's the kind of thing you expect on a jet ski or a treadmill. Our boat is more than 24ft long. At the time we did not know that anything under 24 feet did not require attachment to a kill switch (per Alabama Law) so we did not argue. Everything else was in compliance. This was near the old Pleasure Point Marina. While we were not happy about the citation-- we are happy they are out patroling. There are many crazy boaters out there.

I am confused. Seems like you have it backwards?

Boats 24' and larger do not require a lanyard kill switch to be attached by Alabama Law.

If I am wrong please correct me.

Sorry, meant to say over 24 feet which our boat is. AND, yes burning a day to go to court to have it thrown out. Great times in Dadeville.

Try calling the clerk's office first.  According to Google the number is 256-825-1098. They may let you fax or email your registration as proof of the length of your boat. If they won't take it, then I'd call Judge Taylor's office directly.  Making some phone calls will take a lot less time than spending the day at court. It's worth a shot.
