Not sure if what I heard is lake wide, but my understanding is that the lake is running about 15% of

DO based on some tests. My question is, does this have anything to do with pulling less water along with

the drought IF TRUE?

Got any aquatic biology experts on here?

Spot, I don't consider myself an aquatic expert, but I've been testing the waters of Lake Martin on a monthly basis for nearly 25 years under the Alabama Water Watch program at Auburn University.

I'm wondering where you got your information about Dissolved Oxygen in the lake.  Are you talking about Dissolved Oxygen or Dissolved Oxygen saturation?    Big difference.

In well over 200 tests off my floating dock in the upper portion of the lake, DO has never been below 5.5 ppm (that's good). DO saturation has ranged from 65 percent to supersaturation above 100 percent (also good).  This has a lot to do with temperature and nutrient enrichment.

My results are very consistent with many years of data from other Lake Watch volunteers who have tested hundreds of times on dozens of sites on the lake during the same timeframe.

Interesting question and I appreciate your interest.  Hope this helps.

I would have said "parts per ..." but couldn't remember whether it was thousand or million.

Thanks

This was probably below Midway Island.

Spot, I can't imagine DO saturation levels on Martin getting as low as 15% unless the samples were taken at the very end of a shallow slough and the feeder stream had no flow.

Every test our Lake Watch volunteers have taken...and virtually every study of the lake I've seen by AU, ADEM and APC...indicate that we enjoy a very unique waterbody truly deserving of the Treasured Alabama Lake designation.

Thanks, Dick Bronson
