Don't have propane but I would think from an aesthetic and safety viewpoint underground would be better.  Just make sure it is intended for underground use (e.g., galvanized steel).

We use Area Propane out of Dadeville. Good folks.

We had ours buried.  We use Superior, in Wetumpka.  It's right on 231, where 9 and 231 meet.

We've never run out and they come out and check it periodically.  We don't use a lot of propane, because it is just our generator and our range top.

From a safety and looks standpoint I have a burried tank. I also recommend buying the tank as to renting it. That way you can select the propane supplier.

We always used the same supplier until one day I checked their prices. Would you believe that since I was such a good customer they were charging me $0.90 a gallon more than their competition. Needless to say I changed suppliers. Of course the original supplier then told me they would be glad to lower their price.

Now I always check prices as sometimes one supplier is less and other times they are more expensive. This past week I ordered a few hundred gallons and again one supplier was $0.45 less than the other.

I use:

  • Ferrell Gas - 1-866-553-5149
  • Suburban Propane - 1-800-776-7263

Buried is better in several ways. Make sure the anode bag is properly placed in the hole with the tank.  I would be on location when it is installed and inspect myself also.  Never let the tank get less than 20/25 % if you use different companys to supply gas or they may try to slap you with a inspection fee.  You may or may not coat the tank with a bitmus coating.  The sell a tank that can be buried or placed above ground. a burial tanks fittings are a little diffrent than a above ground tank.  I went with the either or type tank and was able to install myself.

Almost 10 years now and we've never had a problem with our buried tank.
