It is amazing that so many keep littering the roads and lake in the area.  We go down Baypine Rd everyday and it looks like a dump.

My wife and I go out each day and pick up the trash on our street, but it would take any army to pick it up on Baypine Rd.

Is there not a law in Alabama for littering ?  Just a thought.

Anyone having the same problem ?

All over the state on the roads that I travel.  It is amazing how nasty we are!

You are right that it would take an army to keep some roadsides clean.  We need to say to a lot of folk  "C'mon Man!"

It's illegals and dimokraps.  If you see a litterer follow him, get a tag number number, call police/Sheriff....they will prosecute.

That if trash blows out of the back of a pickup going 70 mph, it's an act of God, not littering in the State of Alabama!

Had that problem on Coosa 20 a while back and the culprit was the Trash pickup truck being careless about securing their load.  Might be wort a call to your local trash hauler with a request they ensure their load isn't lightened as they speed along your road.

I live in Montgomery and litter is pervasive. It is not only along the roadside but parking lots are littered where people empty their ash trays, dispose of empty beer cans and left overs from their fast food purchases, empty oil cans and anything else they need to throw away. It's for certain that "Don't Litter" signs are useless. Another pet peeve of mine is people who park in "handicap" spaces without having a handicap tag because there is no one who checks these parking places.

You are right about the litter blowing out of the trash trucks.  Another thing that bugs me is the dumping.  Landscapers seem to think nothing of dumping landscape trash into the woods.  And people throw out stuff that must come out of household remodeling.

There are those that seem to think that they can throw their trash bags out because they don't pay for trash pickup.  After weekends is particularly bad.  I always look forward to when the trees and bushes fill out and the undergrowth grows, so I don't have to look at it.

I seems to me that the lowlives that do the littering are locked up.

What's wrong with letting the guys in jail stretch their legs and pick this mess up?

Thirty guys in one day can get miles done.

I was disgusted with the mess from 34 to Dadeville.

On the side I was interested in developing a road trash truck with a robotic elephant snorkle to vacuum it up.

What do you think the ratio is between purposely thrown trash and good ole boy truck "accidents"?

I see that we all have the same problem.  Police can set up cameras in different locations each week to help pay for the State 's lack off money.  Now that is a joke.

Complaining about litter on the highway and the shoreline doesn't help to keep it clean. The only way to help is to get involved as a community and organize neighborhoods. part of the problem is the trash trucks but most of that is beacause home owners overfill containers and fail to bag the trash. The beer cans, styrofoam cups, fast food containers and plastic bottkes come out of the car windows.

Let's work together as a community and have regular cleanups. It is the only way to insure that we have clean roads and a clean shoreline surrounding our Treasured Lake.

I second the folks in the jails picking up trash. I don't understand why that doesn't happen automatically.

I see prisoners working in Montgomery and in Elmore county.

The prisoners you see are usually on state highways and are not available for county roads. Montgomery does have a "Clean City Commission" that utilizes city prisoners. The state prisoners do cover some of the busier highways, 280, interstates etc and get around maybe once a year. According to one of the DOT District Managers, picking up trash is not a "high prioriety" in a state that struggles financially. The only solution to the problem we have with trash in the Lake Martin Community is to work together: identify as many sources as possible and try to eliminate or reduce, educate our young folks and ultimately organize neighborhood cleanups.

It can be done!!!

The biggest problem on our road is a ravine where people just dump whatever off the side of the road.  Trash, building waste, you name it.  Some of it looks like bulk garbage that could only come from a place that is supposed to teach little girls not to litter.

Illegal dumps as described by aardvark should be reported to your County Commissioner. The "Throw Away" days that will be held every 3 months were started in an attempt to prevent illegal dumps from starting. Please report this and follow up to make certain it is cleaned up.

I would say "You can't possibly be that ignorant, wix" but then I look at the guy you put in the White House and realize that yes, indeed, you could be.

Not highway related, but litter related.  We went to the Lake Martin Amphitheater a couple of years ago for a show.  I could not believe the amount of trash that was left on the grass by folks.  The people I saw throwing their beer cans down were college age.  There were trash cans all around and they just throw it on the ground!   Anyhow, we keep trash bags in our boat for the purpose of scooping up trash on beaches and in the water.
