Can someone or the Marine Police respond to this.....

Now that ALEA gives the option to send an electronic copy of your Driver's License for you to place in your "wallet" on your phone, will the Marine Police recognize and use this as proof of vessel (V) classification???

How did you get it to add to your wallet on your iPhone? When I click on it in the email I received it just closes and does not appear in Wallet.

I have an android phone...  I downloaded Pass2U Wallet free app. From menu, settings, import, click on email file from ALEA and BOOM its in the wallet!  I'm sure iPhone is similar.

I tried to use my wallet one time to call BoatUS.   I could not figure out how to dial the number.

Picked up my cell phone and I had the number stored already.  Worked great

Here are the instructions to add your DL to your wallet. This would have been in a second email that you would get after renewing your license online. It will be in the form of an attachment to the email with an extension of, .pkpass.

Please find attached your Alabama Driver's License Passbook.

What is a Passbook?
A Passbook is an application in iOS for Apple devices that allows users to store coupons, boarding passes, event tickets and more on you device.

Why did I receive this?
As an added feature to your recent Alabama Driver's License Renewal purchase, we have provided you with a Passbook of your license.

How do I use it?
If you are reading this email on your iPhone or other Apple device that supports the Passbook application, simply click the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Passbook icon. This should launch the Passbook application and prompt you to add the Alabama Driver's License Passbook to your device.

I don't have an iPhone or other Apple device that supports Passbook, what can I do?
If you have an Android device you can visit the Google Play store or if you have a Windows phone you can visit the Windows phone store and download one of the free apps that support Passbooks.
It is not necessary that you use the Passbook as it is only provided as an added convenience to those who can use it.

I read that in detail and searched all over the internet. Apparently with some IOS updates it will no longer work.

Oh well, just have to keep my wallet onboard.

Good question... Here is an clip from an article discussing the changes to the ALEA WWW site:

Smart phone users can download a digital license to show as a secure form of identification. The license, only available through an online renewal, can be downloaded using Apple Passbook or Google Wallet.

ALEA Spokeswoman Anna Morris said the digital license will be a valid form of ID if pulled over by police.

I did a little more research and went to the ALEA site.  I looks possible that you can also get one by ordering a Duplicate, but you have to pay for it.  If you call the ALEA office they should be able to help answer that.  Seems like you should be able to download it any time.

I sure do like the convenience of having on my phone.  I usually take my wallet, but there have been times I acidentally left on shore.  It is backup in case I get pulled over fot safety check by MP.

OK, I called ALEA...

You can only get an electric version when you renew your license or have renewed in past 30 days.  However, you can order a duplicate and get the electronic version, but will pay the duplicate license fee.  You can renew online now once every 8 years without going in person and standing in line.  On a side note, the electronic version is "an extra elective benefit" as you still get the plastic laminated version mailed to your address.

First question is what model iphone do you? Second is what ios update is installed? Third did you open the email on your phone and then open the attachment? Fourth is your wallet setup in settings?
