Have a very good Sports Illustrated commerative of the "Tide's" 1992 season, "That Championship Season."  Not a big Bama Fan (daughter is a vet grad from AU) but I'm under duress to get rid of stuff..

So, let's see if someone wants to bid on it..  Original cover price, $4.95.  don't want the money, we will Pony up to  'Rescue 911" animal shelter in Dadeville or similiar org of your choice.

Will send cover picture via email if interested..  Let's give it a week..

So why don't we pool our resources and outbid the Bammers, get the magazine, and have a public burning at the stake.  If we all chip in $5, $10, or $20 the ante will go up significantly and even if the infidels raise more money the cash will go to a good cause.   I am good for $20 but am back in DC and would have trouble coordinating the pledges (plus I am actually a Razorback but AU gracefully allowed son #2 to spend two years of our money there.  He had the complete college experience...fraternity, keg parties, football games, apartment life...except he forgot one key element...going to class, lol).

Any of you AU grads willing to be the point person?

No, Pi Kappa Alpha, a rowdy bunch at AU for sure.  They used to beat up on my "fraters" at the TKE Auburn chapter for fun.

I don't think it is the school as much as the school's fans.  Some can be pretty obnoxious and turn what should be a sporting event into a year long bragging rights fest that smacks of "I am better than you because the team I support beat the team you support".

I still think it would be good for the shelter to get some competition for the mag going.

With you on that fly guy.. When i retired usaf, many years ago, I was advised to 'pick a team.'  Partial to AU, ambivalent about the Tide.  Only reason to hate them is jealousy -- clearly most dominate FB program in the ncaa.  That is difficult to concede as a Cornhusker loyalist..

When I moved here, I was told I had to commit one way or another.  Under family pressure I went Bama.  But the majority of my friends are AU.  So here is what I do - when Bama plays, I root for them; when AU plays, I root for them.  And when they play each other, I hope for a really good game and may the best team win.  Have never understood the vicious attacks on each other.

I remember vividly about 15 or so years ago a crudely constructed message on the back of an Alabama fan's truck after an Iron Bowl "13-10 ESAD".

"ESAD" deciphers to "Eat (poop) and die".  Real class....and BTW the most obnoxious fans probably never set foot on campus unless to go to an A Day game.

Had an interesting experience at the local drug store.  A  gentleman who I will describe as a 'poor soul' was talking to the druggist.  It was after Auburn had won a game.  The man said, "We won".  I wondered what the "we" meant and what part of the victory he participated in.  I am very, very aware that looks aren't everything, but I doubt he (or likely any of his close family) ever went to Auburn, much less played football.  Interesting how we feel we can become part of a football team!

Bingo.  While we may disagree on that other forum you have stated more eloquently what I have observed, to wit the "we" association with a team.  I often correct my daughter in law when she says "we" and "you" when referring to the teams by saying "you mean Alabama" or "you mean Auburn".  Her parents are the most obnoxious of the bunch...they even wear Alabama T-shirts TO CHURCH.  Nuff said.

You are right.  I never attended either school and certainly never played football (anywhere).  Most of the most ardent fans who trash the other team, have never set foot on campus, let alone played there.  (when I say I went Bama, I watch their games.  But I usually watch Auburn as well to keep current with my Auburn friends (some of whom actually went there).  I'm glad both schools have good programs, which give opportuniies to young men that might not have had any opportunities at all. And i think players on both teams have a good graduation rate (because college is not just about football).

When I went to Auburn during the 60's,, I was lucky to have been in a fraternity. In that Fraternity (DTD) we were trained if needed or not to respect authority, salute the flag, say Grace at table, use a napkin, watch your mouth, wipe your ass,,,, and, most of all,,, Never Never Embarass this fraternity, a guest in our House or this University. Harsh punishment if not...

In those days , we lost to Bama more than we won. But, we lost with CLASS folks. CLASS. And we did not throw beer cups or curse fans. And, We did not do anything to hurt our family, our fraternity or Auburn University. We celebrated the game, the tradition, win or lose.

Crap... I am too old to understand today's youth. And I don't have the patience to try.

Well, I think I will go spend a week at the Lake to try to relax my worries about Junior.....
