We've had Charter phone svc for over five years.  No excessive problems with outages, and have had no service calls.  We will not use Charter tv svc.

Why?  Who do you use for tv?

Majicjack over internet.  $20/year.

Phone company sometimes allows free or very cheap landline for alarm only.

One thing I did for phone and security was to have Charter cable modem internet, Arlo camera system with motion detectors and Oooma phone.  The entire package costs me less than $70 per month.  And I love the Arlo system as it allows to actually look at the house any time I want.  By far the biggest cost is the internet which costs me $57.99.  Arlo is $10 per month and the phone is only $6 per month.  Works great and is cost effective.

Below is what my Arlo dashboard looks like.  I can check on the boats in the driveway, have three motion detecting cameras in the house that send me an email and a text and record in HD for several mintes when activated and can look at the lake and boats/jet skis when I want to dream I am there.  I also think you can link to the police with Arlo but am not positive.

Ok, now this is along the lines of what I'm looking for. How do I get with Arco people?  Is this something put out by Charter?

Just google Arlo camera system.  They are sold at Amazon, Best Buy, etc.  It is independent of Charter.  You will need high speed internet to run the system.  As for the phone, google ooma and you will find it.  They will give you a local number when you sign up.  Cheapest system basically just charges you taxes and FAA fees (around $6 per month).  Again, it needs high speed internet to work.

I have a security system in Mtg with cell only.  First thing a crook will do is cut phone line. Probably what you need is internet service.

I have Simplisafe and I am very happy.  It's cell based and I installed it myself, very easy.  You can add the components you want; entry, motion, glassbreak, cameras, smoke, water, etc.  basic monotoring is $14 and expanded is $29 (expanded lets you arm and disarm remotely with app).

Doesn't the remote monitoring require a cell phone? And a monthly bill for cell service?

That is what has kept me from having this service at the lake...
