G.O.P. Health Bill Would Leave 23 Million More Uninsured in a Decade, C.B.O. Says

It is an improvement from the intial attempt where the number was 24 million. I quess the change was to get closer to Trumps lie that no one would lose their improved and cheaper health insurance.

His supporters who wiil be dying for lack of insurance will still be able to rejoice as Trump tells them how he is making America Great again for the top 1%.

They just haven't drained the swamp in that dimokrap controlled congressional office......yet.  Saw that 64 year olds were going to have to pay something like $16,500/yr under the plan.  That's very interesting because I had to pay about $18,500/yr when I retired and started paying full price.....and that was in 2004.  Trump plan sounds like a deal to me.  If all the slugs o-BAMMIE put on Medicaid (11 Million) are canned, the whole program is indeed a winner......unless you're suckin' at the trough.

Was your $18,500 for you and wife? I assume the $16,500 is for individual.

That rate did include my wife, BUT let's look at some facts you want to ignore.  I looked up the medical cost inflation and it has gone up 127.3% since 2004 (not amortized, just added up) so that would mean my insurance would cost $42,050 today.  Divide that by 2 and that's $ 21,025/person/yr.....much more than the House's plan of $16,500 for a 64/yr/old. Trump's plan simply increases premiums as age increases....risk goes up as age goes up.....but the o-BAMMIEcare wanted to take care of only dimokraps thru Medicaid....screw workin' folks.

I fully support people who are in true need via food stamps, insurance, etc., but I think we all agree that too many people take advantage of these programs. .......why "work" for something if you can get it free? Maybe it is hard to see ones self in need of such assistance, but there has to be some sense of individual responsibility when it comes to caring and providing for ones family. I know families where both husband and wife work and in some cases one of them may work two jobs. If you know that something is going to be free, you will have less desire to work. As an example, if cell phones were not offered for free to certain individuals, most would find a way to have a phone even though some may resort to theft as a means of possession. We don't need to make assistance available if there is not something required in return. Also, I have one qustion, how many people are able to afford insurance but for whatever reason(selfishness or otherwise) elect to go uninsured?

Goofy, and you are goofy on this one.  The CBO has taken into account the millions of people that are now being forced to buy insurance at the point of a gun that don't want it.  Anyone that wants insurance under Obamacare-lite can and will buy it and it will be less expensive to boot.  Those that don't won't be forced by govt to buy health insurance.  And even more to the point, for at least the first three years the so-called people losing their insurance is comprised almost entirely of people that were projected to be forced to sign up that have no desire to have health insurance and will simply decline to decline to sign up.  In years four and beyond the changes to Medicaid eligibility criteria will mean that some people will no longer be eligible and will decline to buy private insurance.

Only the idiotic government can call that a cut.  And of course we need to be reminded that this is the very same CBO that annually wildly overestimated the number of enrollees.  So they overstate projected increases and likely overstate the number that will so-called "lose" their health insurance.  And of course they do not take into account how many people will get access to health insurance if it no longer is so punishing to have full time employees.  I believe many small companies will be more willing to have one full time person with access to benefits versus 3 part timers.

Critical thinking Goofy.......give it a try some time.

Sounds great as long as you and your family have insurance. But then again, Trump did promise that no one will die in the streets.

If it is so great, why is the Senate starting with a blank piece of paper?

You still don't get it do you?  There are actually people out there that don't see the need to buy health insurance.  They were forced to by Obozocare.  They will once again have that option if this or somthing similar passes.  You want to do something to help those that actually want health insurance and can't get it, great.  Lots of good ideas out there for them to do so.  But getting more people dependent on the govt is nothing but a vote buying scheme.

As for the Senate, you are indeed a low information voter.  This is what happens with legislation.  Then the two bills go through reconciliation and a final bill is passed by the House and Senate.  Your govt school has once again failed you.  I would demand a refund.

See the latest news on Obamacare?  Premiums have doubled since 2013 and more firms exiting the exchanges.  But hey, you want to keep screwing over the American people with this piece of garbage legislation.

You seem to have difficulty understanding that the mandate was used to force more healthy people into the plan so pre exisiting conditions would be covered for all. Males also paid for pregnancy and females paid for prostrate cancer coverage. That is how insurance works.

Usually, when the Senate receives a bill from the House they debate and make changes. Why are they starting with a blank piece of paper on this bill? Actually, the bill was just sent over as they were waiting for the CBO numbers. If the Left passed the bill without the CBO numbers you would be screaming like an infant. Your silence is golden. Did they teach you ethics in school?

How about the fake news about 23M losing their health insurance?  Stay on topic.....forget your Ritalin this morning?  It's actually even worse than fake, it is an out and out lie.  But hey, when you are dumb enough to vote for Hillary and you suffer from TDS you will believe anything that comes from the govt media.

Bet you also think that Trump colluded with the Russkies to steal the election from Hillary too, right?  The left.....they believe so much that simply isn't true.  Hayek warned about this in his great book The Road to Serfdom.  The first thing socialists, totalitarians and communists have to abolish is the truth.  Once that is accomplished the sheeple will buy into anything.

"It's actually even worse than fake, it is an out and out lie." You can't prove chit. The CBO numbers are acurrate when you want them to be. Otherwise, they are fake. Play your silly game with your fellow right wing nuts.

no but we can smell chit and know what it looks like

When Obamacare first passed, CBO anticipated that by 2016, 21 million Americans would enroll in the law's exchanges. When 2016 rolled around, the real number was just about 10 million. A massive miss. Remarkably, CBO relies on its revised 2016 "baseline" in its new calculations -- but the 2016 baseline was also off by millions.  By their own admission. Despite these demonstrable misfires, CBO is still using verifiably-disproven, Obamacare-friendly estimates as the basis for comparison:

That's the aforementioned magical thinking, and it's indefensible when there's real data available to plug into the calculations.  So when you take away the people who already don't have coverage under Obamacare but who CBO has decided would hypothetically do so in the years ahead, and substitute actual enrollment numbers for CBO's outdated and disproven projections, only a few million of the "23 million" would actually lose existing coverage -- and these people would receive tax credits to purchase new plans, many of which would cost less under the AHCA. We should also point out that millions who'd "lose" coverage would do so voluntarily, affirmatively choosing not to buy a product that the government is no longer forcing them to purchase. Beyond that, conservative healthcare wonk Philip Klein also finds some of CBO's additional analysis to be puzzling:

Aetna Inc. Chief Executive Officer Mark Bertolini escalated his criticism of the Affordable Care Act, saying Obamacare’s markets are nearing failure as premiums climb and healthier individuals drop out. “It is in a death spiral,” Bertolini said in a video interview with the Wall Street Journal that aired Wednesday on the newspaper’s website. He predicted that more insurers will drop out of the market for 2018, following Humana Inc.’s decision to quit Obamacare entirely for next year. Aetna, too, is mulling whether to further reduce its presence in the markets set up by the ACA. The company cut its footprint to four states for this year, from 15, after losing about $450 million on sales of ACA plans last year. Bertolini has been saying for months that the ACA’s markets are deteriorating. In October, he said that rising rates would push healthy people away from Obamacare, leaving insurers with sicker customers, and forcing premiums even higher. The increasing burden of medical costs as fewer and fewer healthy customers enroll are among the conditions that create an insurance death spiral.

Let's do this slowly so you will understand it.  The headline "23 million will LOSE their health insurance".  As the CBO states, the vast majority of those included in that number do not currently have health insurance in any form or fashion.  And because they are not being forced to buy it they are projected to not do so.  Despite that, the media says they will lose their health insurance.  You see Goofy, you can't lose something you don't have....but it makes it look worse so they lie.   And the lie is right there in the CBO numbers. Look it up. Check out who those 23 millon people are and tell me who is lying, me and the CBO or the govt media and left wing nuts.
