Coming home from town today, noticed an old pick up truck loaded with junk, backing up to the woods on Woodbine Rd (near Cedar).  We turned around and went back, letting them know we were watching.  I had my cell phone at the ready to take a picture of their license plate and them.  We turned around and they had taken off.  I don't know where they ended up dumping their trash.  It didn't appear to me that these were people who probably lived at the lake.  I guess the only way we will stop the dumping is to be on the lookout and take pictures of them doing it, to provide to the county.

There is a Coosa landfill.  It is open on Thursday afternoons and costs $6 per truckload.  They don't take household trash.

Your effort in foiling the dumpers is noteworthy. However my main concern has to do with those getting ready to dump their trash. I may be over reacting, but be careful as we are seeing people who seem to be offended by almost anything that might question their motives,

Good for you but I am with Buteye, please be careful when you do something like this.  Most of these dumpers are relatively harmless scumbags trying to save a few dollars but you never know.  Sadly, they probably just went and found another spot to do their dumping. In my view there is a special place in the netherworld for people like this.  Laziness and/or greed combined with a complete lack of conscience is a deadly combination.

Thanks for the concern, but we were also prepared in case things got out of hand.  Sadly, you are right that they probably just found another place to dump.  It irritates me to no end to look out across the woods in the Fall and Winter and see the junk that people have dumped.  That is why I always say to people to please specify to their contractors and landscapers that they will not dump in the surrounding woods.  I also think there will be a special place in h*ll for those that dump their weekend trash bag out along the road, because they don't want to carry it home or they are too cheap to pay for trash service.

Agree on the last sentence.  We pay for trash removal year round and it is just not that expensive.  We burn that much gas in our jet ski in 3 hours.  And when I say "we", I don't mean me as it is not my idea of fun.  :-)

Several years ago as a truck passed my place a bag of garbage arched up into the air. They probaboy didn't like what I yelled at them.

I opened it and found a number of letters to the same address. I just boxed it up and mailed it back to him...COLLECT!

You are correct about these violent dumpers. I called one down for dumping Col. Sanders all over the road and he went into a rage. Thought I was going to have to repell boarders.

Couple months ago, I found three bags of trash/garbage on Winndy Hill Rd. Two bags were ripped open and several papers did show the name and address of person. Took pictures of bagged trash along with admonition about littering our area and mailed to him, my wife talked me out of "delivering" the trash to his lake address on Beaver lane.

I don't know why these people think the rest of us are supposed to pick up after them.  I love what you did.  I would have been tempted to dump his trash in his yard too.  Probably also someone that says they care about the "environment".

I Promise if I ever find trash like that with name and address in it it will return to it origin. The biggest difference is it won't be in a neat package like a garbage bag when I leave. The biggest issue with part timers and trash is they have to leave the can at the street because they are only here on weekends and that is advertising that nobody is there all week. It is an invitation to the criminal element. The boss and I generate abiut one bag a week that gets lost in the huge can so I have invited partners to put their trash in it as the leave. They take advantage sometimes when they have smelly trash they don't want to haul in the trunk of a car. If they come in the truck with an open bed they haul it back to the city. I understand having spent decades as a part timer myself.

Another kind neighborly thing would be to offer to take parties cans back down the driveway for them if they sign up for service. Neighbors should take care of one another and help when they can. Offering the use of your can to part timers is a  small thing. As full timers we basically have to have service. I also understand it is not much money, like $55 a quarter for us, but the can at the street is an issue. Contractors and DIY guys is a totally different issue. Those dumpers should be shot on sight. Maybe not a kill shot but taking out a kneecap should be justified. ??

Lifer, clearly you need you some hound dogs, because we manage to fill 2 dumpsters every week.  Our lovely next door neighbor has told us to use their can if need be when they aren't here.  I can see why, in some areas, it might be a tip off to criminals, but on the other hand, we pile our bags up in a centeral location (the back of our old pickup truck) and once a week it get put in the dumpsters for the trash people.  There was a thing on news last night about criminals and empty trash bins.

The thing I am really looking for are those who want to drop junk - old mattresses, old sinks, old fencing, etc into the woods surround the lake.  If these people are working, then they should tax the fee at the landfill onto their bills, and od the right thing.
