Saw an article recently that 13 counties in Alabama restarted a work requirement to be eligible for food stamps.  I know this will shock our left wing nut friends but those counties saw an 85% drop in enrollment for food stamps when this requirement was put in place.  The irony of this is far too delcious to ignore.  Much like the state of Wisoconsin saw when they changed their welfare requirements, many people on these programs will voluntarily leave them if in fact it requires that they actually have to earn their benefits.  These programs violate basic principals of human nature.  I have long believed based on facts, logic and reason that these programs harm many of the very people they are intended to help.  They are widely abused by otherwise able bodied Americans who can work but choose not to because they are corrupted by a system that breeds generational dependence on government for something they could, if properly motivated, provide for themselves.  Welfare, food stamps and other similar programs should exist to help people through a rough patch in life.  They should not be a means to live off the backs of hard working, productive members of society.  Sadly, they have become a cynical vote buying scheme much like public sector unions are a money laundering scheme by Democrats.

That article was in Yellowhammer and it named the counties involved.  I believe all of the counties were in the Black Belt.  The much bigger problem, in my opinion, is the gross abuse of the Social Security Disability. o-BAMMIE's boys expressly sent all the slugs to SS as their unemployment ran out and helped them have bad backs, etc. so they could get on permanent welfare (SS Disability).  If the SS system fails it will be directly because of the abuse by o-BAMMIE.

Casual observation based on some people that have been out here to work, and some people that I know in town:

A great number of SSDI recipients are well enough to work "under the table", meaning their work is not reported, they do not pay taxes on what they earn, nor do they pay into SS.   I had someone I was using to do a lot of jobs here, until I found out that 2 of his guys work "under the table".  And when you ask why they do not report their income, the answer is always "well, they  will lower my benefit".  Duh.

There are people who truly cannot work - at anything - due to the severity of their disability.  And I fully support a safety net for those people, but when you see the Faye Edmonson commercials and people talk about "Miss Faye, got me my money" that should tell you something.  There are far to many lawyers who specialize in getting SSDI for clients, fot it not to be a scam.  And it is my underwstanding that the government pays the legal fees.
