Is it legal to camp around the lake in the undeveloped areas?

Is there any maps that show good campsites? Thanks!

contact Ala Power dadeville office--if you do  camp, make sure to take trash with you so others dont have to clean it up

Not sure if you would have to have some sort of license for primate camping, but I would suggest that you book a session on the Tarzan Boat for them.

I thought I typed primitive but it came out primate some how. Humans are primates, so I left it!

LOL, I figured that was what you had meant... ;-)  I have not seen much primitive camping for years, and am not sure that there is a "one size fits all" with regards to the answer.  Most primitive camping has been on islands, and the major property owners are APC and Russell; but there are also islands in the hands of "private entities".  You can research property owners through http://www.alabamagis.com/ - most of the lake is in Tallapoosa county, but the Southwest is Elmore, and Northwest is Coosa.  My thoughts are that camping on private property is likely forbidden or discouraged due to the litigious society in which we live – also see the life expectancy for a rope swing on the lake…. :-(

Alabama Power Company encourages public usage which includes camping on APCO owned islands. Russell Lands allows access with no camping. Campers are asked to respect the environment and leave no trace.

To put it simple....plenty of places to camp but you must go by boat and find them on islands.  Usually pretty easy to find because the spot is all cleaned of brush.  Dont really know of any spots you can just drive up and pitch a tent.  Sure there are some but no nearly as many of those spots as island spots.

Goat island is a popular but there are literally endless spots around the lake on islands.

No one cares where you camp and I can guarantee you no one is going to Al power or russell and asking.  Just find a spot...clean up when you leave and have fun.

Dont forget bug spray....mosq big as turkeys around dem woods.  They are awful this year.

Not sure about the mosquitoes but I can tell you for sure the ticks are thick.  We anchor near islands in Sandy Creek to let our dog have a run and play in the water and we have to do a thorough tick patrol before we leave.  Saw a group of younger guys unload at the same island with plans to camp over night.  Brought wood, food, etc. and quickly made friends with our dog.  He was ready to spend the night with them.
