From what I have read, Comey's calling Trump a liar was based on the  comments that the President made about his present view of the FBI. Comey said, " the Administration chose to defame me and, moree importantly, the FBI by saying that the organization was in disarray, that it was poorly led, that the workforce had lost confidence in its leader". "Those were lies, plain and simple, and I'm so sorry that the FBI workforce had to hear them, and I'm so sorry that the American people were told them". I think there is reason to believe that if the American people were asked for their summation of the current status of the FBI that most would agree with the comments made by President Trump and his Administration. Comey has been engaged in so "many" questionable situations during his tenure with the FBI that he is unable to accept his "failings" and has gone to unlawful extremes to try to save "face". The methods he has used to impart his "imprint" and "idealogical" thought process into his decision making has finally led to his "downfall".

  I could argue both sides of that debate. Fortunately I don't have too. I doubt POTUS would be so quick to call out Comey as he did today and volunteer to go under oath if he didn't have the goods on him. I suspect if tapes exist we will hear them after Corey's indictment is unsealed.

I don't think there are any tapes... but I think Trump is playing with the media to get them worked up to think there are tapes.  It all comes down to what Comey says that Trump said, and what Trump said he said.  The media is very excited about Comey's MFRs, but all they are is his written perception of what was said, no matter how many quotes.  And Trump has said he will testify under oath, because he and his lawyers know that at the end of the day, it is still his word against Comey. 

I go back to the situation - Trump  has just fired a guy that he likes.  He feels bad about it and says to Comey that he hopes he can find a way to let is go regarding Flynn.  I think what Trump meant is that he didn't want to see Flynn go to jail or be publicly crusified for his error in judgement.  And according to Comey, Trump never mentioned it again.  Now, do you see anything in Trump's character and communications that would lead you to conclude that if Trump wanted the investigation squashed, he wouldn't just come right out and say it?  He would have said "I don't want Flynn to go to jail". 

Let's not forget that Comey is a Washington player and Trump is not.

Speaking of this thread, I go back to Buteye's original post, in particular the following quote:

So tell me, what it is about the President's view is a lie?  Before you answer conside that the President's view is his OPINION, and as such it can't be a lie. If he believes it he believes it.  In particular, the comment "the organization was in disarray, that it was poorly led, that the workforce had lost confidence in its leader" is very subjective and under the first Amandment the President is certainly free to make those comments....and considering there is no empirical method to use that could prove them false, they are NOT lies. 

Get a grip!

Trump is egotistical, sure of himself, full of himself (that got translated "bull of himself" which is about right.  Maybe autocorrect knows more than I give it credit for), bombastic, tweets too much, off the cuff..etc  But he ain't Hillary, or seasoned self righteous polictician, and he is attempting to change a culture on instisutional self righteousness that has DC inept and out of touch with law and people.

I was a long time reader of the WP - but I am here to tell you that I ended my subscription when they couldn't find one, NOT ONE, positive thing to say about Donald Trump, during the campaign or since he has been President.  You know they were bought out by the guy that runs one of the tech companies (I'm thinking Amazon, but I could be wrong) and since then it is a bastion of liberal perspective.  It is no longer an independent newspaper that it was in the days of Watergate.

Yes, Northern Virginia is a hotbed of liberal thinking, and they can put out thousands of dog poop collection cans and they can sand concrete sidewalk joints so the snowflakes won't trip and fall, but their bridges are rusting hulks.  I went to a farmers market in Fairlington today and the first thing I saw was a Democratic Party tent.  These people live in a dream world and the latest election is proof the rest of the country is sick and tired of paying for their follies.

The statements Buteye listed are Trump's opinion and Comey's disagreement with them.  Problem is Comey called them lies, and he has no basis on which to prove they are not true, especially the one about the agency being poorly led.  I think Comey's testimony last week actually proved he was weak.

You know, I don't know when that happened - it becoming a bastion of liberal thinking.  There were two couple in a neighborhood that were from California, but only one seem to have liberal leanings.  I know that some places were more liberal than others, but a friend of mine in Prince William County ran as a Republican to the State Legislation and had no problem getting elected - in fact, he is still serving, and his equally Republican wife is an Occoquan District Supervisor. 

I honestly don't know if I could live up there anymore. I was apolitical all those years (but of course I had personal opinions that I kept to myself) and I don't really think I have moved so far to the right - but maybe the left has moved much more to the left. 

You've been up there for ages now.  Any plans to return to Alabama at some point?

As to my return, hopefully before the mode of transportation includes a pine box.....  Actually, I enjoy the work I am doing and the monetary and other rewards are significant.  The "other" rewards include a base camp from which all my family can launch to do D.C. Touring on the cheap and easy, and being able to hop a train and spend a night or three in the City, taking in plays and the other things it has to offer.  That being said I plan to be an unemployed lake bum by Christmas....

As to the left, I believe they have gone Bernie.  Just saw a speech by a New York SENATOR who dropped the f-bomb several times in a speech and the liberal talking head blamed it on Trump (I guess it doesn't matter that hers was intentional in an open forum where his was  in a supposedly private conversation).
