I've seen three different congress critters calling for more security not only for themselves but there staff and families. I find this revolting. They know what the job is and isn't when they run for office. If you don't want the exposure don't run, if you're already in office resign, go home and live a non-descipt life. You are no better than me or my family. Maybe you have a bigger target on you, but it is a target of choice. One of these folks also thinks that Congress critters should exempt themselves and their staff from the stignent concealed carry laws of DC. No mention of abolishing it for the rest of the peons that live and work in that "gun free zone". Just themselves.

On another rant, it speaks volumes that there was a lobbyist at this baseball practice. Why in the hell would a lobbyist be there? Rhetorical question of course, I'm sure he was sent there to wipe their sweaty brows and tote those heavy bags of equipment. The crackpot shooter was living in the - gun free zone- for months with quite a cache of guns. But anti guns laws work so well. What needs to happen is the second ammendment needs to stop being infringed and let law abiding citizens have their weapon whenever and where ever they desire. When a convicted felon is caught using a gun, lock them up for extended periods. But if law abiding citizens were allowed to carry there would be folks around to stop the crazy idiots. If Congress exempts themselves someone needs to organize a Million Gun March on DC demanding the same "priviledge- for ourselves.

The thing about the Tyson's lobbyist being there stood out to me too.  This is something that so many people don't realize - how lobbyists integrate themselves with those that they try to influence.  I've always thought that Tyson foods was way too influential in Washington.  If I am not mistaken, a few years ago, a Director of the FDA was relieved and fired from his post for being a little too cozy with Tyson's.

The other thing that struck me was that a shooter would have the audacity to shoot at them... members of Congress.  Complained about how long it took the police to get there, while they were sitting ducks...I guess all these mass shootings that have happened "to someone else" has gone over their heads until they were the target.  Look for them to get that exemption to the law about carrying a gun.  They are great about passing legislation when it involves them.

"WASHINGTON, June 14, 2017 - A Tyson Foods lobbyist and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., were among five people wounded when a gunman opened fire on a group of Republican lawmakers, including House Agriculture Chairman Mike Conaway, who were practicing in surburban Virginia for the annual congressional baseball game. Conaway was unhurt.

The Tyson lobbyist was identified as Matt Mika, the company's director of government relations. Mika previously served as senior director of legislative affairs at the North American Meat Institute and as an aide to Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Mich., and other House emmbers.

In a statement, Tyson Foods said Mika was taken to a local hospital and that the company was awaiting word on his condition. "Matt has worked for Tyson Foods for more than six years and we're deeply concerned about him and his family." Mika is a former college baseball and football player who was helping coach the lawmakers, the company said."

What in the HELL is your point?  I just got back from that game and can tell that NONE of your sniveling, cowardly like was evident there.  Golf Foxtrot Yankee, bubba.

How was the game?  I'm sure it got a great turnout in a show of support.  I'm glad they went ahead and played, because it is for such a great cause.

The atmosphere was great.  The attendance was probably larger than ever, and it seemed to me that the predominant age group was in the 20 to 30 range.  The baseball was not good if one was wearing red, great if wearing blue.

That part of Southeast DC has undergone an amazing revitalization, with high rises replacing the Projects.  I am told the previous residents have been pushed out to Prince George's County.  What used to be low income housing is now largely converted to parking lots, serving the retail andWashington Navy Yard enterprises.  When I started this current gig two years ago I counted no fewer than 12 of those large construction cranes along the waterfront and M Street SE corridor.

That is great!  I figured that SE would be ripe for urban renewal at some point.  Who knows, the Green line might one day be safe to ride.

Certainly is as far as the Navy Yard station.  East of there might still be a bit sketchy.
