Korea?  Do you believe that Kim Jung Un would really push the button?  And what should be the role of the UN? Can they do anything but offer additional condemnations, which seem to have no impact on the rogue leader.  Do you think China maybe secretly egging North Korea on?  And what about Russia?  Do you think Russia is proving additional technology?

I heard on the news this evening that the ICBM that North Korea tested came as a surprise to our military ingelligence.  Ae yhou worried about any of this?

I have felt for a long time China was using NK as a proxy to diminish US capacity in South China Sea and globaly draining our resources just as Russia is with Iran. Our new efforts of exporting fuels will probably be the best push back at the moment. While we still need the semblence of coopreation with Saudi Arabia it is clear to me they have strong factions supporting Isis and need to be delt with, the exporting of oil and gas will go a long way to set a new tone around the globe that we are still a super power.

Given NK's nukes we have very few options and none of them are very good.  Unless we are prepared to put real pressure on China they are not going to do anything substantive.  And they may be unwilling under any circumstances because the last thing they need is millions of NK refugees puring across their border or even worse, having to use their military to prevent the mass migration.  Russia is in the same boat and has already massed troops at their much smaller border with NK.

Probably the best thing we can do is to advance our missile defense system so we render NK's nuke threat less credible, at least against the U.S.  One thing for sure is that NK is a prime example of why we cannot let Iran get nuclear weapons capability.  They will be NK on steroids.

An ICBM nuclear missle doesn't scare me.

It is a technical challenge just to make it happen.  You have to re enter the atmosphere.

It just blows up a city.  Too much sugar for a dime.

An EMP bomb/satellite can be put in low orbit.  Just like the two North Korean ones circling above your head every 90 minutes.

These two "weather satellites" might just have the high gamma modified nukes.

These gamma rays hit the atmosphere and create a quick, intense radio pulse.

The lights go out and stay out.  With just one nuke at 100-300km high orbit.

Then we kill ourselves.

I'm sure Trump knows this.  You can tell by the immediacy of his tone.

I was thinking today - what if China and Russia are using NK as a proxy - they take an action against us and China and Russia will support NK.  I grew up in the Cold War era, with the threat of nuclear war with Russia alwaysin the background, but I never really thought anything would happen.  But it feels different to me now.  China is upset with us expanding our presence in the Pacific, Russia (Putin) would like nothing better than see the US fall (and Iran is right there with that)

Maybe it won't be Global Warming (:-), but an impending nuclear war that will be the end of us.

I agree the EMP is the elephant in the room and would have disastrous consequences for the country.  Yes, we would turn NK into a field of radioactive glass but that would be a pyrric victory to say the least.  Un is already starving his people and all we would be doing unfortunately is expediting what he is already doing.

Yes, I know about EMP and its scary results.

But I am more worried about China and Russia banding together in support of NK and creating a situation in the U.S.  We know these entities are not our friends, but how far would they go to create the downfall of the US?
