Consumer Reports rates AutoOwners high for svc and prices, State Farm very low.  No I don't sell insurance and don't have either co.

A little off-topic but be mindful that a Lake Martin property is different than average. The land is worth more than the improvements in many cases so consider this when purchasing insurance.

scott fortenbury at alfa has done a good job. have been with alfa for over 15 years. had a claim from tree last year and have no compaints about the adjuster (wesley) they did me right. l live on the water in sandycreek.

I highly recommend Bobby Ryals St Farm, Dadeville; most insurers now wont write homeowners unless you also do cars with them; avoid ALFA at the lake ( I own a mortgage company so i have some insight); Ive also been with St farm since 1966

After you go the State Farm route, contact an independent rep that can shop all the other companies like Cincinnati, Met Life, Progressive, etc.  This will give you a good comparison.

I use Greenhalgh in Bham.  Doesn’t matter where they are located.  They will shop multiple companies and find the best deal.  Karen is my contact and has served me well for many 10+ years. 205-967-8800

I've had a couple of small claims that were handled quickly and to satisfaction by USAA.  Since your alias is LSU, I suggest you contact some of you classmates that have gone thru hurricanes like Katrina.  You learn the real quality of your insurance company under tough circumstances.  Key info.....your sales agent may be the greatest guy in the world, but the company and adjustor rule your life in bad times, not the agent.
