Their files have everything on every person that has applied for credit.  Sadly the only ones that will actually benefit from this is the plaintiff's attorneys that I can assure you are climbing all over each other to represent customers in a class action lawsuit.  I hope Equifax has a lot of cash and insurance because they are going to need it.  Providing free credit reports is not even close to sufficient.  They are going to have to pay for this.

On another note, apparently their execs dumped a bunch of stock right before the release of this information.  The SEC should investigate and if they engaged in insider trading they need to go to prison.

All I can say is watch your credit and if you don't have something like Lifelock you might want to get it.....or wait and see if they offer it or a similar service as part of the settlement.  Of course by then your credit could be ruined but its a numbers game......you are one out of 143 million.......do you feel lucky?

not lucky - "you may have been impacted"

Adding to the scandal, three of the company's top executives sold Equifax shares just days after the breach was discovered. The breach was not publicly disclosed until Thursday, more than six weeks later.

John Gamble, chief financial officer; Jospeh Loughran, president of U.S. information security and Rodolfo Ploder, president of workforce solutions solutions sold shares days after the company was aware of the breach, according to SEC filings. Bloomberg, which first reported this, estimated the total value of shares sold to be $1.8 million.

Yup pretty sure that is considered insider trading everywhere but the halls of congress - lthey should have known better, not going to be pretty.

If they are smart they better offer more then you do all the work and freeze your accounts because we screwed up, its going to cost them lots of money, only people going to get rich is the lawyers though.

They should go ahead and partner with someone like lifelock for a bulk rate discount of protection for 5+ years.

I have Lifelock.  But this is about the 4th or 5th time my data has been compromised.  Two of them happened when Office of Personnel Management was hacked.  Two others were credit card accounts I had.  Now this.  The sad thing is that Lifelock only helps after the breech has happened, not before.  I rarely get any communications from them, other than the sex offender report, and I can tell you there are quite a few sex offenders in the area.

Since the first time I was hacked, I just assumed that my data was all out there anyway.

Social Security notified me in August that a request for retirement benefits had been submitted and wanted verification.I contacted SS and discovered this was a fraudulent claim. My wife & I are careful with document shredding etc. and wondered how my SS # was stolen . Now we know! I had to notify IRS , FTC and the credit bureaus in the middle of a buzy office.

"Probably not impacted" here.  Maybe!!

Ya know, these jerks can ruin your life and they cover their screwup to 140 million for six weeks while they sell their stock.  This is an ATL-hood company.....send them all to jail and shut down Equifax.  I certainly never gave them permission to store my data.

Equifax offered to enroll you in TrusteedID free for a year to monitor your accounts if you agreed not to sue. Warren tweeted and the Company dropped the restriction and you can nowl be a party to a lawsuit.
