Does anybody else wonder why they aren't taking the lavel down? I have whitecaps and water coming over my seawall already!

Lake level is 5 inches down from full.  Was your sea wall built too low?

You do know the new rules won't lower levels until Oct 15, right?

I don't wonder at all. First of all this is Irma, not Harvey. Irma is a wind event whereas Harvey was always said to be a rain event. As of right now it is basically a one day rain event for us so why would they lower the lake drastically? My weather channel weatherap shows 30% chance Sunday, 100% money, and 20‰ Tuesday. But mostly I know that they know a hellava lot more than I do about how to control the water so I don't waste time wondering about things that just don't matter.

I have to admit this is the first time that I know of where someone is complaining about too much water in the lake!

I agree with you on the high water conditions.  I've been on the lake since 1998.  This year the water has been higher than ever by about 1/2 foot compared to the highest it ever achieved in the past 19 years I've been here.  Second, yes this is IRMA and who the hell knows what it will do.  First it was going up the east coast and now it is coming directly at Lake Martin.  Yes at least it is moving but still, rain totals could exceed 3-4" depending on course.  And we don't know that for sure as of 8pm tonight.

I think we are forgetting about Ivan.  I put the bottom of my runners at datum 490.0 (491.0 aMSL) and the lake rose right to them and stayed there briefly.

People..quit being so snarky. I was just wondering what folks had heard. Apparently, they were letting it down before today. You make people not want to post with a legit question! Maybe why posts seem to be way down...

If you read the article on the main website, it tells about the new guidelines.  The lake will remain at full pool until oct 15th.

also the levels will not go down like in the past but only 7 feet down.  All of this of course contingent upon rain levels.

Geez, relax.  The post was more of a comment on all those who wail about the lake level being too low.  To have someone comment about it being too high is a welcome diversion.

A good soaking rain like this over the entire river basin should help keep the lake up closer to October 15th.  I have never dived off of our pier in October, so maybe this is the year.
