After listening to the outcry from players about how the NFL is trampling on their free speech rights it occurred to me that they have a fundamental misunderstanding of the concept as it relates to the work place.  Simply put, you do not have the right of free speech in the workplace absent any consequences.  As an example, if I had an employee that expressed their view that anyone that is not a conservative should be put in prison we would take that employee aside and tell them they cannot express those opinions in the workplace.  If they persist they would be terminated for cause. If they want to express that opinion outside the workplace they are free to do so but as an employer with an at will employment policy I could still terminate them.

Case law is pretty clear on this issue and these players, being the uneducated, self important morons that they are do not get that.  They do not own the teams.  They do not own the stadiums.  They are employees and if their employer decides to force them to stand during the national anthem and they choose not to do so they can be terminated or they can quit their oppressive employer and try to find someone else willing to pay them millions to play a game.  Period.  End of discussion.

You are exactly right. The owners with the possible exception of Jerry Jones are too full of greed to let these idiots know who the boss is.

MM, I agree with you.

But I'm sure at this point it is greed driving the owners.  I think they are afraid of retribution from BLM, Al Sharpton, and any other outspoken Black rights lobbying group, not to mention the large number of black fans.  As I understand, most of the contracts say that they "should" stand for the national anthem.  Until they or the NFL makes a rule that all players WILL stand, there isn't much to do.  And likely that won't stop them from putting a fist in the air.   I see the guy that started all this is without a team, and he says that he will stand for the National Anthem - because he is afraid that he will never play NFL football again.    Really, the players are such a lot of sheep.

Encouraging once proud universities to enroll moronic, academically unqualified thugs, then granting them unearned diplomas, thus dumbing down the cvalue of a college degree for tens of millions of young Americans. What could be wrong with that? Oh well, at least we got to watch some good football. Seems like a fair swap to me.

I wonder what Nick Saban would do, if today the TIDE came out and took a knee to the flag and Anthem.   I think I know the answer.
