The jury selection was made up of six men and six women, three of whom are immigrants. The jury was a cross-section of today's San Francisco. It included at least two tech workers and most jurors appeared to be in their 20s and 30s. Their educaional degrees range from Ph.D's to high school diplomas. More than 1000 potential jurors were called in for the jury selection process, which took place over three days. As they asked the jurors a stream of questions, lawyers on both sides emphasised that they wanted them to focus on the "facts" of the case and not the "politics". Assistant District Allorney Diana Garcia declined to comment on the composition of the jury. It is hard to believe that very much information could have been revealed during three days questioning of over a thousand people. Matt Gonzalez, the lead "defense" lawyer in the case and the chief attorney of the San Francisco Public Defenders Office said, "we are very pleased with the jury". He went on to say "we have such diversity built in San Francisco and I think we have a jury that understands a lot of the concerns about the defendent receiving a fair trial". Since the lawyers emphasised "facts" over "politics", it seems irionic that  Gonzalez asked them at one point "if they would be comfortable coming to a verdict opposed by President Trump".                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Several potential jurors were dismissed because they acknowledged that they might be too emotional about the shooting. One potential alternate juror, who was dismissed, said he thought he might not be able to be impartial in the case because he had a sister named Kate and she looked a lot like Steinle. Does anyone believe the three immigrants on the jury were impartial? Their being on the jury would be like having three murderers on the jury of someone being tried for murder.

I can see given the testimony that they might not find the guy guilty of murder, but negligent homicide or at least manslaughter seemed to me to be a no brainer.  This was a clear case of jury nullification.  I can imagine that the ones that might have voted for a lesser charge like negligent homicide or manslaughter probably listened to the others and figured it was hopeless.  Want to bet if the guy is deported he is back in SFO within a month?  I pray he doesn't kill any other innocent person but given his history I would not be surprised.  Will be interesting to see what DOJ does.....assuming SFO doesn't sneak the guy out of the U.S. before they get their hands on him.

He faces time in jail for gun possession and he will be deported.  But since he's been deported 5 times before, he'll just come back.  I don't know what was said at the trial that caused a jury to think he was not guilty of murder, but they may not have been given the option of manslaughter.  Funny, all these people with guns that misfire.  I have a gun and mine has never misfired or gone off without my finger on the trigger.

I can't imagine what Americans are thinking with these sanctuary cities.  This is a prime example of what happens when you have a sancturary city.  Essentially they are saying it is okay to break the law and we will protect you (even if you are a criminal).

I can't blame the family of Kate Steinle with being outraged and disappointed at the outcome.  Understand the Justice Department may do something, but it won't matter.

I could buy 1 accidental shot, but 3?

Last time I saw that was with a Tompson!

Too bad we didn't have Roy Bean to try him!

You think this will be a Killer for Doug Jones in Alabama? I think most Bamians will be awakened to what sending another Liberal to the Senate would do long term. This has to help the Moore campaign.
