So, I find this a little confusing, even when reading the linked article ...

Am I correct that:

- A paper ballot is scanned into the tabulating machine ...

- The machine uses that scanned image to tabulate the vote ...

- The paper ballot is then destroyed after the election (??!!) ...

- The only document available in the case of a recount is the scanned file ...

Please tell me that’s not true, because destroying the actual, physical ballot kinda seems to defeat the purpose of using a physical paper ballot in the first place ...

If the above is true, and they can delete the scanned images as well — wow. Where’s the audit trail?
