My last day answering to a boss, other than my wife, officially ends today.  26 3/4 years is enough.  Full time lake life here we come. My Christmas present to myself.  ??

Wow me too. I have always been a very active person. Do you think we will find enoght stuff to do at the lake without getting bored? (Outside of yardwork) Can't go fishing every day.

Congratulations. Don't worry, she will keep you busy.  SHE remembers ALL the honey-do's that you never got to and will come up with more.  I built me a workshop so that when my wife doesn't have anything for me to do I go out there and make sawdust, can't hear her when the saws are running.  Also thinking about a snow plow for my lawn tractor so I can plow snow off our driveway and the neighbors' and surrounding streets.  That should keep me out of the house for four or five days next time it snows.

Not to worry.  Honey do list is  pretty long, plus my own projects.  No longer have to get up before sunrise except to to hunting, don’t have to pack up on Sunday to go home, enjoy the lake while the crazies aren’t there.  Cooking out at Big Beach late in the evening, making new friends.  The list could go, all get the idea.  Lifer, you can introduce me to local politicians.  Give you some support on trying to improvements made.  ??

I've been retired for 11 years (took an early retirement) and I can't think of a day I haven't had plenty to do.  Now you can take your coffee cup outside and watch the sunrise if you are up or the sunset.  Or you can wander to the local Hardees or other fast food place for breakfast where the other senior congregate.  I read a lot, so I do that, and I also paint some.  My dogs take up a lot of my time, so if you don't have a pet, you may want to consider getting one.  They are always up for a trip to Home Depot or Tractor Supply.  And you will have time for a hobby or learning about something you have always been curious about.  One of those things for me, was WWII, and I catch shows on the History Channel and read books.  As you get older, you realize how much you don't know.

My husband retired 4 year before I did.  It was tempting to load him up with Honey-dos, but then I remembered that he worked long and hard not to have someone assigning tasks, so I go easy on him.  Now that you are retired, whatever you don't get done today, you can do tomorrow.

Congratuations, and welcome to the next phase of your life.

Congrats, Rooster!  I know you and the Mrs. will enjoy.   Just so you know, there are some crazies that stay at the Lake after Sunday, but the smooth water on Tuesday and Wednesday takes any stress away.

Rooster and Samdog.....I've been retired for over 4 years now and I LOVE it. I always traveled with my job so I never had a chance to do the things I'm doing now. The best think I'm doing now is my garden and my chickens. I have about 30 hens (no roosters) and my egg business has allowed me to meet many new friends on the lake and in Dadeville. The garden (spring and fall) keep us busy. We can alot and give away alot of veggies. Also a way to meet new folks.

I still love to travel so we hit the road when we want to and stay as long as we want to. We're both certified barbecue judges so that keeps us on the road judging BBQ all over the southeast. So don't worry, you'll find plenty to keep you busy and congrats on making it to retirement.

Congrats.  I still work part time and of course you could volunteer to help other folks.  But I tell you the truth, I stay pretty busy but on my timeframe rather than the bosses’. Lol.  Have fun!

But only due to jealousy.    Congrats and I can tell you that I am so looking forward to posting the same some time in the hopefully not too distant future.  But then again, there are my plans and God's plans and one thing I have figured out in my 58 years is that they are often not the same.......still hoping He will get it right for once.

Congrats Rooster!! For a lake newby I can not think of a better place to retire and it sounds like an early spring fish fry is in order.
