2 men confess to dozens of burglaries in multiple counties, sheriff says Monday, January 8th 2018, 11:05 am CSTMonday, January 8th 2018, 3:21 pm CST By WSFA 12 News Staff CONNECT AllWSFAWebTeam@wsfa.com · Pictured L to R: Mehan and Wesson (Source: Elmore County Sheriff's Department)Pictured L to R: Mehan and Wesson (Source: Elmore County Sheriff's Department) ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) - The Elmore County Sheriff's Office arrested two suspects in connection to dozens of home burglaries, according to Sheriff Bill Franklin. Allen Wesson, 58, and George Mehan, 24, were taken into custody Friday after deputies discovered them breaking into homes in the Real Island Community of Lake Martin, Franklin said. On that day, officials say the men broke into five homes. The two later confessed to targeting approximately 30 homes in the Lake Martin area in Elmore, Tallapoosa, and Coosa counties, Franklin said. Wesson and Mehan are painters who developed a drug habit, the sheriff said. Wesson and Mehan are charged with eight counts each of burglary, theft and possession of theft tools in Elmore County but may face more charges in the other counties where burglaries took place. Bonds are set at $40,000 for each count for a total of $320,000 each. Copyright 2018 WSFA 12 News. All rights reserved.

Saw this on the news today.  It seems like every year, there is a rash of  theft around the lake.  I almost hate to hire anyone to do work inside of my house, because of the potential of this.  Of course, if I am home, they might get more than they bargained for, if they broke into my house.  Not to mention my 3 guard dogs.

Because we do not live there full time my strategy is to not have much of value other then the jet ski and boats at our lake house, all of which are insured for theft.  I also have a camera system that is motion sensitive so anyone that breaks in will be videotaped.  And they will be disappointed unless they are only interested in my beer in the fridge.  Old furniture, one out of date TV, an old inkjet printer, etc.  That's why I don't mind having workers at my house because they will see that there are more lucrative houses to break into than ours.

Heh, he already knows where I store the beer and the good scotch.  You wonder why it takes him several hours to winterize my boats?  That's why I always get the friends and family discount.
