California.  Maybe just give it back to the Mexicans.  Watched a news story today about how California is "fighting back" against the WH.  They won't give up their sancturay cities, their legalized marijuana, their illegal immigrants.  In fact, their Welcome to Califormia signs say "welcome immigrants".  Do you have to pass a "liberal" test to move there?  Are there no sane people there?  And they are convinced that they are going to win against the WH.  ICE thinks differently.  I'm fine with other people having a different perspective, but it's not like California is a very successful economic state.  And these entertainment people go on camera and act like they have the answers.  They are so cut off from the rest of the country in attitudes and ways of thinking.  Best things about California is the weather, the scenic views and the wine.  Otherwise, I am fine with giving it back to Mexico.

In reality there are two California's, the coastal areas and the inland empire.  The coasts are dominated by left wing nuts, illegal immigrants, homeless drug addicts, etc.  The inland empire is by contrast fairly conservative as it is occupied by farmers, middle class, etc.  Want to know how bad it is?  There is now an app for San Francisco that identifies where human feces are located, presumably from the homeless.  Look it up and you will be disgusted at how many locations there are in that city.  If Trump had actually used the term sh!thole (which I don't believe he did) he could have used it to apply to California as well.

The problem with exporting California to Mexico is that most of the illegals there would object and there would be a mass migration of left wing nuts to other states where they would again vote for the same insanity.  My preference is to allow the inland empire to form the 51st state and leave the coasts to their nuttiness.  Not going to happen but it would be a good thing for the country and those who live east of the mountains that are not represented in Sacramento.

Just like New York, Californians are faced with exorbitant taxes passed along to them by their Democratic leaders. California has the highest poverty rate at 20.6 percent. Almost one-third of their households can't meet their basic costs of living,

He on Logan Martin we have a number of fugitives from California.  One I know bought his house on the internet and got out (Whitness protection program?)

I always tell them we are glad to have good neighbors but please, please don't cone here and vote as you did in California and do for us what you did for them!

See what smoking pot does. Rember what pot did to the boys in Nam and California.

So, tax burden and political party in charge are drivers. It’s damn near free to live in Alabama, a clear Republican stronghold. 19.2% poverty rate.

Smoking pot did not effect who our troops in Viet Nam.  Did you serve by the way ?  I think not.  I wonder how it is you can tell someone how to vote.

If you served in Vietnam, you would know pot had a terrible effect on troops, particularly as a gateway drug to cocaine and heroin. Yes I was there and yes I saw the negative effects.

Sorry Cobra. I did not understand that first sentence. Yes, I served working on Bomarc SAM's missiles. These were stateside. I crewed on123 and121s.

As for telling someome how to vote::  Well when one observes an unbroken string of disasters variaing  only in degree that a certain mindset leads to is it not prudent to point this out?  For instance in 50 years of unbroken Democrat rule they reduced Detriot from the most prosperious city in the world down to the level of a third worl country. This happens over and over.

The prudent man learns from history. The fool does not.

Yes and how much of their economy relies on the other 49 states?  The answer is that most of their economy relies on the tech sector and agcriculture whose sales are mostly dependent on the other 49 states and internationally.  California is also in the top 5 for welfare, illegal immigration, taxes, regulations, size of state government and so on.  I have an office in California and it is a nightmare trying to be profitable.  And I travel there on a regular basis and it is not my favorite place to visit.  Terrible traffic, crime, hotels, rental cars and gas are ridculously expensive.  I can assure you if it weren't for the climate and some of the natural beauty California would be a third world country.

Yes, its expensive. I travel to San Jose a couple times a month. And once or twice a month to Austin. Lets not Forget Texas and its similar problems. Except they sacrifice school funding to provide tax incentives for corporations. Maybe they should implement an immigration law like Bama did 5 or 6 years ago. That worked really well. Lets face it, the states in the South are by far the most dependent on federsl aid, especially welfare. They don’t have high taxes, they may control regulation and size of state government. Heck, they even stood up and refused to expand Medicaid. They just accept 35% of their budget from the feds and call it good.

The schools are good in California where the elite liberals live and lousy everywhere else.  In fact, according to US News California K-12 is ranked 42nd and Texas is ranked 41st.....so much for Texas rewarding corporations at the expense of the kiddos.  Heck, Alabama K-12 is ranked 39th and above California. Facts.....stubborn things.

There is not a state in the union that is a worse business climate than California (NY and MA come close).  As for Texas, it makes one wonder why everyone is moving there, including tons of people from California.  Texas actually appreciates their businesses and that is why they go there. Our company is very successful in Texas and given the costs and regulatory burden have always struggled in California.  If we didn't have clients with projects there I would fire everyone and shut the office down.  Instead, I will make enough money in Texas to cover the fools in California that like living in a 3rd world state with nice weather.

Every state has problems but California makes the rest look like paradise.

Ya, those facts can be real buggers. And manipulable based on perspective and data source.

U.S News “Best States for Education” has California at #25, Tx at #41 and Alabama at #47.

Under Rick Perry TX was paying out as much as $19B annually to attract jobs, and at its peak acheived  #3 ranking of states for highest proportion of jobs paying @ or below minimum wage. Perry also reduced per pupil spending (although this may not be the most credible metric) by as much as $5B / year. Yes, people move to TX, the vast majority for low paying (Amazon, Samsung) manufacturing and warehouse jobs. The model was a failure. I was in Austin a lot during that time and watched.  They paid much, much more than the economic benefit of the jobs.  But it was a numbers game.

2017 study of states most dependent on federal money?  Alabama, #4; Texas, #35; California, #46

We could shoot stats back and forth for a while  Let’s just disagree

I specifically mentioned K-12 and their ranking. California's overall ranking includes their university system which has little to do with the state government. You can argue all day long about how wonderful California is but the rest of us who live in the real world know better.  It is a sh!thole of a state and if it weren't for the rest of the country would be no better than Venezuela. Lucky for them that they are able to rely on the rest of America to keep them afloat. I know of what I am speaking as I am trying to make a little profit there and its a freaking nightmare.  If its so wonderful how come you don't live there?

No kidding. Just when I thought things couldn't get any dumber we have a guy actually telling us how wonderful California is.....not that he actually lives there as he had to get out due to high taxes, crime, illegal immigrants, etc.  I love these exports who tell us how great it is from agar while those of us trying to make money in that sh!thole of a state would love to get out.

I was. And I see when confronted with facts you backed away from TX and had to get crude and emotional. I understand. I dont want to live there. I like where I live.

I'm not emotional at all about this and I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings.  You claimed that Texas steals money from education to pay off big corporations (as if it's the government's money in the first place).  I pointed out factually that Texas is ranked higher in K-12 than California.  Your response was to ignore that salient point in preference to their universities (which are excellent by the way).  Considering every child in a state has to, or at least should, be impacted by the K-12 system as opposed to the very low percentage that attend college one would think that is a more important metric.  Especially when a good number of those attending colleges come from other states.  But I guess if you keep people in ignorance and poverty with your schools they can be counted on to vote for the party that will give them all sorts of free stuff paid by others.  Works like a charm in California.

I just don't get the defense of California other than it's weather and natural beauty, especially by those smart enough not to live there.  When I use scatalogical terms it refers to the political and business climate which is awful.  Your defense of California by comparing it to Texas is also strange.  Sort of reminds me of leftists telling us what a paradise Cuba is with it's "free" healthcare and education and yet I have never seen a story of Americans risking their lives by getting in a boat trying to flee the U.S. so they can finally enjoy life in the people's paradise.  But I sure hear a lot about people fleeing California.  Last count the exodus was 1 million more left than came into the state.  If it weren't for illegal immigration the state would be losing population.  Don't need emotion to see that for what it is.

I suspect it is our old friend copper. He dissappeared when I figured out who he is. I think he knew I was going to out him publicly. I still consider doing it from time to time. What I don't get is that all liberals think they are intellectually and morally superior to us deplorables, but are to ashamed to go public with their identities.

If anyone is interested in who Ole copper is let me know. I can tell you all about him, his family, where and how he grew up and what his classmates thought of him way back in high school, even what some of his peers thought of him in his professional life. I've shared it with a few folks privately but if the response is great enough I will publish it publicly. The forum has been awfully slow lately. It's about time somebody lived things up. I'm sure the webmaster would appreciate the traffic.. Lol.

I don't know who it is but suspected it might be a familiar poster who decided to come back under a different alias.  Whoever it is, even if it is Copper with a new screen name, I think we should treat the "new" poster with civility based on the posts under the new name.  I personally don't want to see someone "outed" unless it is ok with that individual.  For instance I know the real identity of GF but so far have deferred revealing his identity on the forum.  It is enough that he can no longer hide behind the screen name and knows at any point I could do so.  Please treat copper's identity similarly.

Maybe I will, but then again, maybe I won't. I don't even know. He directed some nasty statements at me in the past. Only time will tell.
