They must have Trump style  gold doors.

The US Air Force awarded Boeing a $23.6 million contract in December to replace two of the five "cold chiller units" aboard the aircraft used by President Donald Trump.

A spokesman for the US Air Force said the planes' existing refrigerators have been failing at an increasing rate, "especially in hot/humid environments," adding, "the units are unable to effectively support mission requirements for food storage."

Another factor in the cost is Air Force One's required ability to be able to fly continuously for weeks without landing, meaning that the plane must keep enough food on hand for roughly 3,000 meals.

That's a lot of Big Macs and Diet Coke!!  I hope this is where my tax money is being spent...MAGA!!

It's all the ripple, thunderbird, and champipple that was hauled in AF 1 from ‘08 till ‘16.  Rotted out the refrigerators.

I wonder where they kept the doobies.  Or do you roll those as needed?  Why can't they come in box of twenty like cigs?  Mary Jane 100's?  Don't know much about the Choom culture.

GF, this little bit of info was in your link:

The Boeing Co., Defense, Space, & Security, St. Louis, Missouri, has been awarded a $6,173,500,000 undefinitized contract action contract for the F-15 Qatar program. This contract provides for the foreign military sales (FMS) requirement to procure 36 new F-15QA aircraft for the Qatar Emiri Air Force.

I worked at McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis (now Boeing) when I finished at Auburn  I worked on the military side (F-4's) and not commercial.  One of the reasons these projects are so costly is we were and are high priced, gold-plated engineers!

That is paritially true, engineers love change orders, but it's the user that drives the requirements to meet the mission.

Another part is that Congress cuts the budget for a program, which means quantities get cut and schedules get extended.  I worked on one program where the govenrment had to bear the cost of keeping the skilled labor when contracts were delayed in being awarded.

I have a feeling that the refrigeration untils for AF -1 probably have unique requirements, or the buy is being combined with a bunch of other expensive stuff and when you divide the cost of the contract by the number of pieces being bought it makes for expensive refrigeration (and spare parts)
