i definitely dont condone any form of violence, especially against women; but i have yet to see any reports where his accusers filed formal abuse reports with the police--have i missed something ?

The media is on a spree of falsehoods about this.  I believe the only reason this came to light was because his ex-wife came forward publicly to say he abused her, and then his first wife supported her assertions.  The WH has not done anything wrong in this whole thing, yet the media has blown it up to be some massive coverup.  The FBI does the background check and the personnel office makes the final determination of who gets a clearance or not.  He had an interim clearance, so there was no problem in him seeing classified information.  Most people who are not granted a clearance never know why because you aren't told why.  I really do not understand why his wife chose to go public - they are no longer married and as you point out, no formal arrests or charges were brought against him.

One thing that I keep thinking - the reason that he would not be granted a clearance is a history of domestic abuse, which could make him a target for blackmail.  But if the whole thing is made public, doesn't that remove the concern that he could be blackmailed?  It's no longer a secret in his past.

This is going to sound odd coming from a women, (and I absolutely do not condone any kind of violence against women or men), but when did this become a reason for unemployment, once you remove the blackmail concern.  Yes, he clearly has an anger issue and needs to be in treatment for that, but does it pervent him from performing the job he was hired to do.  Other than the optics (particularly bad in the current environment), I can see where an employer would be concerned if he were convicted of a charge, but in this case, there is no conviction.

And then they condemned Trump for not directly addressing the women.  Well, he said he considered it serious, and no doubt Porter was asked to resign, but why would he say anything about the women?  Clearly the media is hyped about the "me too" movement.

Same here - my biggest concern with this #metoo stuff is that it appears that regardless of how long ago or if it was reported or not the movement is to punish them for the rest of their lifes and are they not allowed to move on from whatever their issues were at the time regardless of accusations, evidence, due process or if they have changed their behavior.

You said something mean to me 20 years ago - you should be fired today.  You indicated that you had a headache and did not want to have sex at the time, you asked again on another day and now you are a rapist or "guilty" of a sex crime.

This kind of stuff is not helping the women (and/or men) who have had abusive relationships or actual crimes comitted against them, if anything it just makes people want to roll their eyes and think here we go again.

I agree.  And as a women, I fear this is going to be worse for women in the long run.  To me, it is ridiculous to persecute people for things that happened years and years ago.  Even the whole Weinstein thing bothers me - yes, he may have preyed on women, but there was a quid pro quo for the women involved - they exchanged sex for a career, but now that they are famous, they want to say they were coerced.

I don't think women are looking down the road to see that a lot of men will be reluctant to hire or work with women, for fear that they may say or do something that will later be construed as sexual harassment or assault.

If this keeps up there is likely to be a bunch of what we called "old maids". Men will be afraid to ask for a date. I also hear that the Japs are building robot women in all aspects. Also, you can turn it off!

Progressiveness at it's finest!
