WASHINGTON — President Trump stunned Republicans on live television Wednesday by embracing gun control and urging a group of lawmakers at the White House to resurrect gun safety legislation that has been opposed for years by the powerful National Rifle Association and the vast majority of his party.

In a remarkable meeting in the Roosevelt Room, the president veered wildly from the N.R.A. playbook in front of giddy Democrats and stone-faced Republicans. He called for comprehensive gun control legislation that would expand background checks to weapons purchased at gun shows and on the internet, keep guns from mentally ill people, secure schools and restrict gun sales from some young adults. He even suggested a conversation on an assault weapons ban.

At one point, Mr. Trump suggested that law enforcement authorities should have the power to seize guns from mentally ill people or others who could present a danger without first going to court. “I like taking the guns early,” he said, adding, “Take the guns first, go through due process second.”

I don't see anything wrong with what he is proposing.  He's covering a lot of populice ground, and while some gun owner may not like it, I don't think it is enough to get him voted out of office.

Did you hear that Walmart is raising their gun sale age to 21, and Dick's Sporting Goods is suspending sales of ARs.  I don't know that a lot of people buy guns from either of these, but it supports the notion that everything doesn't have to be legislated.

Dick's Sporting Goods' announcement Wednesday that it would stop selling military-style rifles like the AR-15 was instantly powerful, dominating the news cycle while adding fuel to a gun control debate that has raged since the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

But in practical terms, the move may not have much impact.

A small fraction - about 12 percent - of the hundreds of thousands of AR-style rifles sold each year in America are purchased at big-box merchandisers like Dick's, according to Southwick Associates, a market research firm that works for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a gun industry trade group.

"The actual sales impact will be negligible," said Rommel Dionisio

After the December 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the company halted sales of military-style rifles like the AR-15, which, along with AK-47s, are categorized by the gun industry as "modern sporting rifles."

That move did nothing to stop AR-15 sales, which spiked that year amid calls for stricter gun laws.

A few months later, in the summer of 2013, Dick's opened the first of its line of specialty Field and Stream stores, geared toward hunting and fishing. Those stores began selling AR-style weapons.

Most gun owners do not buy their firearms from Dicks or Walmart or any other companies that have a small selection of guns.  But it proves the point that companies and stores can make their own policies without government intervention.  I saw a homemade video by a 13 year old who first tries to buy alcohol and cigarettes and is turned down, but allegedly goes to a gun show and buys an AR without question.  You know it's staged, but the anti-gun lobby doesn't seem to know that and reinforces the idea that there are big Gun Show loopholes that need to be closed.  It was making the rounds a few days ago on FB.

Of course the one time Trump makes a statement that is clearly unconstitutional you would support him.  Interesting that the only way Trump gets your support is when he proposes something that would violate our rights. Of course, I think he was talking about people suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome so you better hide your guns cause they're coming for you Goofy.

Wonder if you would be as supportive if he wanted to violate your first amendment rights?  Somehow I think not and you would agree with me in that case.  At least I am consistent.

And there is the chit for brains Alabama lawmaker wanting to ban all semi auto firearms.  Rifles, pistols.

Guess bolt action, single shot and revolvers are the only things safe ( for now ).
