Wow...what is going on, I wonder? First it was Judy's Stagecoat, then Popular Dawg's, the Chevron station at the corner of Highways 49 & 34, and now it's Oscar's!!! My husband and I ate at Dawg's last weekend and it would appear that Rick relinquished his steak-cooking secret to Jeremy, the new owner because the steak (and potato) was as delicious as ever...SO tender and juicy! Best steak around...including Birmingham, IMHO!

Does anyone know what will take the place of the Chevron station on the corner? Hope it's something good and doesn't just remain empty!

Blessings to all!

Tom Haley bought Chevron--he owns the strip center-says he's going to remodel the store & reopen-but it seems he's moving very slowly -sure needs to fix big potholes in parking lot

Who cares about pot holes, folks.  An icon and very good restaurant is for sale.  Change is inevitable, but still sad.??

the potholes im referring to are in the Chevron shopping center --not oscars; you'd care if your tire disappeared into one of them

i could value the building//land--but how do you value customer loyalty to a new owner ? service/quality of food/prices etc ?

I saw Oskar yesterday and told her I had heard a rumor the place was for sale and asked if there was any truth to the rumor. Her response was, absolutely,! Everything is for sale, the check just has to say WOW!

I am not wild about the prospect of it selling but can't blame them if they are looking to cash out. They built a great business from nothing and deserve whatever reward comes thier way IMO. I wonder what will become of store 34. Dollar General killed the convince store business for that corner. Store 19 is probably only still open because they sell hard liquor.  I think a Subway would do well on that corner. Or maybe a real Momma Goldberg.

Exactly, how is goodwill valued in the restaurant business?  Where do we go now for the cornpoppers and tubes of ranch dressing, country fried steak, fried okra only Oskar could season........remember when there was a yogurt place down the road for dessert?

Happened to pass by Store 34 this AM and potholes were still there and full of water.  Went back by this PM and asphalt filled the entire entrance.....hope it sticks with all that mud and water.

Goodwill is normally calculated as a % of annual sales.

Restaurants generally sell 3 to 6 times their earnings. Building and all equipment is included in the total on this one.

We found the food at Oscar's to be too greasy for our taste.  Perhaps new owners will broil more.  I know there will be a lot of comments on this.

Objectively, they serve what people will buy and eat.  Perhaps the tastes of their customers are changing and broiled or grilled will become more prevalent, but for now fried and fried followed by fried sells.

Most restaurants will accomodate a reasonable request for grilling over fried.  The problem is that it does not necessarily make it more healthy, if it is grilled with a butter baste.

I think it can be said that almost any restaurant being sold around the lake is sad news, because it means the potential that it might not be reopened as a restaurant.  At least there has been success in that location - some locations seem to open and close at will, for one reason or another.

well, at a $2 mill asking price, all this speculation may just be a waste of time--and good luck to any buyer attempting to finance it--most banks are only lending 40-50% on restaurants

Is it good news that the Oskar's listing is not on the realtor's website?
