you buy a life insurance policy say for $100,000 & you faithfully pay premiums for 25 years; you die--so the insurance company sends your beneficiaries $100,000 +;

you faithfully work for 45 years & pay into Social Security, say $75,000--you die before you ever draw any money--your family receives a check for $255.00; i guess all that money you paid into the "lockbox" is re-distributed to God knows where ( welfare, medicaid--wasnt this supposed to be YOUR MONEY??

There is no lockbox anymore.  The govenrment took all the money and left an IOU.

Are there circumatnaces under which a widow/widower gets payments if you die?

When all the unemployed dimokraps ran out of unemployment gubment freebies, o-BAMMIE signed 'em up for “bad back disability” under Social Security.  That's where all the money you pay in goes.

Remember too that SS also provided protection should one become disabled and would pay a benefit to you for the rest of your life and your underage dependents. Was never meant to be an investment plan.

And yes the remaining spouse can draw a benefit check for the rest of their life even if they personally never paid in to the system.

But if both parents die, children don't get their SS benefits

He was the first President to raid the SS trust fund to pay for Vietnam.  I have long said that if I ran a fund the way the govt runs SS I would be in jail.  The fact is SS is a Ponzi scheme.  It was never meant to be permanent which is why we should oppose any new entitlement program, even if they claim its temporary.

How do you think it wound up that so many people think of it as a retirement fund?  So many people count on the benefits when they retire in order to get by, a lot of them would have nothing to live on if it went away.  How can the government turn it around?

  We really need to bail Barnet Madoff out of jail and let him rin S S. He used the same system and did well at it...almost!

It's not even close to something you can live on. Just ask my Mom, who lives with us because all she has is social security. That's the crime of the whole thing. Had they taken the trillions in FICA payments and invested them in index funds people could retire on close to $100k per year, if not more. Solution is simple from an actuarial standpoint and impossible politically because Democrats will demogogue it to death to get the senior vote. They need to gradually raise the age you can obtain benefits, means test for those benefits and allow younger people to invest a portion of their FICA payments like your IRA or 401k. Also, the need to eliminate the fraud in the disability portion.  It's not hard to fix it other than the politics.

  Remember when Bush G attempted to pass a law allowing people to invest 2 % of their Social Security in a private fund.The Democrooks went balistic! They knew that as soon as the people realized what a ponzi racket S S is it would be over. They could then be unable to scare seniors just before an election on how the big bad Republicans are going to take away their checks. Same for the illegals on the government teat.

   Isn't it interesting that the Democrooks are far more interested in preserving the rights of illegals than Americans! Maybe we should round theem up and ship them back with the illegals.

Hence the political impossibility of fixing it.  Unless seniors will refuse to respond to the demogogues it will never get fixed.  And all that angst for a lousy $1,300 per month.
