OK, that many vehicles at Big B BBQ must mean they know something that I do not.  I have stated on here that Big B has been Hit or Miss for us over the years and the last few trips were MISS.  So maybe I just order the wrong thing (bbq??).

So I plan to give it one more try.  Depending on forum members to tell me what is good there.  What do you order?  What is good?

My wife and I enjoyed the BBQ pork sandwich . It was quiet saucy and good .  Was last summer however.

I, like you, have experienced hit and miss, with enough of the latter that if we want Q at the lake we pick it up at Hog Rock in Wetumpka.  I think Big B must put their stuff through a meat grinder before serving, way too finely chopped for my taste.  Maybe their ribs are good.  The last ones I got from Hog Rock were better suited as raw materials for shoes than the palate.

I've had nothing but misses there. Tried it once since it moved, but I just didn't care for it.   However, my neighbor says they have good hamburgers.

I'm sorry to say, but I have not found good BBQ around here.  It seems weird to me that the best BBQ I have had was in Woodbridge VA, but the guy that owns that place is from Northern Alabama anyway.

Smokin' S in Wetumpka does a good job with BBQ, and we often get a Turkey and Ham from them for holidays.

That's good to know.

If you're on the south side of the lake, try Kickin Chickin.  Everybody thinks it's just a chicken place, but they have the best BBQ sandwich around.  And 1 sandwich can feed 3 in my family (get the sauce on the side).  It's on Hwy 63 about 3 miles south of Kowaliga Bridge.

agree Kickin chick BBQ is tasty--also klike Good Ole Boys at corner of 280 & 63 in the Exxon--huge portions & very tasty ribs

Big B BBQ has always had the selections of "Chopped or Sliced" and "Hot or Mild". Years ago I was always a Sliced/Hot fan. We would often stop and eat there on our way to the lake from Sylacauga when they were located on the corner at 280.

Within the past year, I ordered Chopped as I had gotten used to ordering a pound of chopped from Sho-Nuff BBQ, where they give you the sauce to put on yourself. Well, I was somewhat disappointed because the Chopped at Big B already had the sauce mixed in it, and it was a lot of sauce that made the consistency similar to BBQ from a can. Maybe chopped has always been saturated with sauce, but I don't remember, and maybe that is why I traditionally ordered sliced. Personally, I like to control how much sauce I'm putting on my BBQ.

The Hot Sauce now is not as hot as I remember it being 15 years ago when I liked it so much. That issue is easily resolved by using Tobasco Sauce to make it just like I like it. I think it is even better than before when I can control the heat.

So my recommendation is to get Sliced, then whatever sauce you like (adding Tobasco if you need to). We're eating there once every couple of weeks now. If you get a plate instead of a sandwich, it seems that you get larger bite size chucks instead of slices, which is a good thing because you don't have to cut long/thin slices with with your knife. This may depend on what cuts they have made in the kitchen at the time. I like their steak fries too.

As far as the crowds... They benefit greatly from Fishing Tournaments and teams coming in using the nearby SportsPlex.

I dislike Good "ole Boys.  Everything is so dry.  I think their BBQ is among the worst for being dry and tasteless.  I don't think I ever tried their ribs.

I'm given to understand that Sno'nuff is changing owners.  A woman that works there is supposed to be buying it.  Don't know that for a fact, just what I heard.  I've seen Kickin'Chicken, but have not been there.

I've found Sho-Nuff BBQ in Alex City to be consistantly good.  A little hard to find since it's off the main drag.  Located in shopping center on Dadeville Hwy across from funeral home.

Could someone please tell me where this Big B place is located? I live just offHwy. 34 (down from Poplar Dawg's) and get here by way of Hwy. 280 coming in from Birmingham.  Thanks!

turn right at the light off 280 at the big intersection ( jet pep) onto HWY 22 west--about 1000 yards on right

on the south side, Cotton's has been a favorite of mine for many years. It's north of Eclectic on hwy 63. I agree that Sho Nuff is the best Q in AC.

Cotton's has been a Lake Martin tradition for as long as I can remember(and that is a long time).  While I have had better BBQ, going to The Lake just isn't the same without a plate to go from Cotton's, and eating it back at the cabin.

The times I have eaten at Cottons and ShoNuffs they have smothered the que with sauce, which takes away the taste of the meat.  Maybe I should try sliced at each.  I just want an Alex City bbq that can challenge LA BBQ in Robertsdale, Full Moon in Bham, Smokin S in Wetumpka,

Kickin Chicken is about 8 miles past the bridge, so don't give up if you've gone three miles and haven't seen it yet.
