I generally don't answer my phone, because of all the spam calls, but last week the "IRS" called me twice.  They told me that I was going to jail if I didn't call them back immediately.

There was a segment on the news today about how widespread a problem it is with people filing bogus claims on your behalf.  Then when the money lands in your account, these "IRS" folks will call and demand the money back.....  If such a thing should happen, the segment recommended that you immediately call your bank and tell them to return the payment.  And then call the IRS.  Apparently it becomes an involved process and your legitimate return will be caught up in the investigation and legal wrangling.

LOL!  I did speak to the IRS on the phone once, but I can't remember if I called them or they called me.  But they confirmed everything in writing, so I know it was legit.  It had to do with the way my broker listed my interest income on the form and the way I listed it.  It wasn't a big deal.

I wanted to return one of the calls last week, and tell them to come arrest me. I was looking forward to it

You know, it is really a shame that our information gets compromised so often that it makes it easy for the crooks.  I have personally had my information compromised 3 times - twice by the government and once by Experian.  And those are the ones I know about.

IRS around this time of year, wireless home security systems, extend your auto warranty and the latest I actually got today was we can take care of your student loans down to 0% and possibly get what you owe waved.

They are all scams and I wish there was a way to report them - half the time the number does not exist or is some little old lady somwhere.  Wish there was a way to get even with the crooks.

This is the reason that I don't answer my landline.  Law enforcement can't do much, because the callers are overseas.
