Not much....I know it's not the answer you are looking for though. I was afraid to try it with my pontoon a few years back (with the top down)..... I don't think it would have worked.

When Steve had his place at Blue Creek I took my toon over there...Bimini top down, anchor light down, even had to take off the silly excuse for a windscreen at the captains position...and prayed like he!! that another boat didn't happen by.  Got a cook's tour of the underside of the bridge, though, lol.

Clearance is inversely proportional to water level, so don't delay!

Thank you for the info.  My boat is approximately 4'7" from water line to highest part of boat.  Was hopeing it would make it under the bridge but it sounds like it might be a tight squeeze.

We have a place on the east side of the HWY 49 bridge.  I have a 19' open bow ski boat and I have no problem getting under the bridge at full pool, although I do have to lower my wakeboard tower to get under.  Also three of my neighbors have pontoons and they all are able to get under the bridge at full pool as well.

The lake is rarely at full pool- it usually stays about 6 inches lower, but last year it seemed to be an inch or two higher. We have a 24 foot pontoon, and the last three years  we have always been able to get under. We do have to take our top off, and our captain seat is low.  Our neighbor has a tritoon and he doesn’t have an issue either. 

I did hear a rumor, Alabama power was looking at investing in the bridge to make it higher. They own ALOT of land on that side, and are going to convert the land into lots to sell. With a higher bridge, the property will be worth much more. This was something I heard about 2 moths ago. 

You need to be careful when going under, and always have your boat in idle. It is very low, but with the right boat it isn’t that big of an issue.

I wonder how they could build a higher bridge on that location without completely closing the highway.  There just isn't much room to build without having to buy some expensive property in the area adjacent to the bridge.  Rerouting the highway to an undeveloped part of Blue Creek will likely to be even more expensive.  No matter how they solve the problem, it will be expensive and time consuming.

I have a Cobalt bowrider and I can get under at "full pool" - sparing about six inches. But the point above is well made that the lake is rarely at 491. It is usually three or four inches under that. Also - keep this in mind: if you're looking at old posts (defined as maybe 2014 or older) - people may be referring to 490 as full pool. That was on the old scale "Martin Datum" which is the equivalent of 491 sea level. The lake isn't any higher, it's just the number has changed. We old lake people still may refer to it as 490. I just realized this when I saw one of my old videos. I made it in 2010 and referred to full pool as 490. I just wouldn't want anyone to check the water level these days and mentally add another foot when they don't need to do so.
