I've seen the building being gutted the last few weeks and just assumed they were going to re-open when finished, but today I heard a new "wings" restaurant will be opening when the work is done. Whee! The person I spoke with couldn't remember the name of the establishment or proprietors name but he already owns another location with the same concept. Considering the very small accommodations one must assume they will offer delivery. If they don't, they should.

The latest attempt to make a successful eatery out on 49 seems to be well  underway. They have a sign already, Fusion Grille. I wonder what they are going to "fuse", besides the nasty dirt, grime as sewage that is so prevalent in that building. DonnyMac has taken over the past he rest of that corner so I wonder if he is bringing his particular formula of nasty to a new restaurant. Inquiring minds want to know.

Not that I mind a new restaurant but Bob's was my treat for breakfast on work weekends at the lake.  Always ordered the special and sent a picture to my wife and internist (usually getting the same response from both about cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc., etc.).  Loved the ladies that ran the place and got to recognize the regulars there for their Saturday morning breakfast, reading the paper and talking.  Life goes on but for me Bob's will be missed.

I worked at that site back in the fifties when I was a teenager.  It was a Standard Oil "filling station."  Had two gas pumps (regular and ethyl) with full service.  Grease rack and $2.00 hand detailed car washes.  Pan-Am across the street on one corner and Sinclair on the other. Added to my resume when I moved on to Southside Standard Oil across from the infamous Three Little Pigs Cafe offering curb service and a teenage hangout with a jukebox.  Climbing that ladder of success, I ended up running Phillip's 66 at night while in my senior year of high school.  Learned a lot about cars and trucks from those experiences.  Self-serve ultimately killed that business model.

One thing about our preferences is that life changes things.  I know the young man that is opening the new restuarant and he an excellent cook. You may miss Bob's but give him a chance.

At the corner of Broadnax and South St. across the corner from what is now Southside Chevron (noted for being robbed by a guy on a pink bicycle).  The Suds and Bubbles (or whatever it was called) on the other corner was at one time a Gulf Service Station.  Siggers barber shop is at the rear of what was the "Three Pigs".
