I have been watching with mild amusement as Starbucks flips and flops back and forth on their new policy.  So they got a lot of bad press with the two guys that got booted and as typical of many large corporations they totally overreacted.  I have no comment about their decision to reward these guys because I don't often buy their product.  Paying hard earned money for overpriced, burnt coffee is not my idea of a wise spending decision.  Then they got some flack for having the temerity to state that their restrooms are for paying customers only.  For those that travel internationally they will be well familiar with our enlightened democratic socialist paradises in Europe that do exactly the same thing and often charge for using the restroom.  It makes perfect business sense to do so, but not with the liberal brain surgeons at Starbucks.

So then they decided to open their stores and restrooms to anyone and announce it to the world.  I am sure when they made this "enlightened" decision they were all congratulating each other for their compassion and open minded persepctive.  Fair enough, except as with most liberal ideas they failed to actually think this through.  The sad reality is that there are millions of homeless in this country, many because of mental health issues or some form of addiction.  And yes, there are lots of them that have just fallen on hard times for one reason or another and we see them all the time in the homeless shelter we support.  But opening your stores to these people is not a good business strategy.  The homeless have a communication system second to none and I can assure you they will flock to Starbucks stores to get out of the weather, use the restroom, etc.  And many of them have extremely poor personal hygiene habits and that alone will drive away paying customers.  But when the mentally ill homeless start camping out in Starbucks stores, and I can assure you they will, it is going to be a disaster.

My prediction is that after some time and a whole host of incidents and possibly lawsuits as a result of this misguided policy they will quietly revert to their original, rational policy.  While their warped values are important, nothing will trump the bottom line.

If this has not already happened, it is just a matter of time until someone organizes a group of people to go into Starbucks and create a "sit in". It doesn't have to be a group of homeless people, indigents, immigrants, or any other group of people to bring this about. I could get together a sizable group of people, walk into Starbucks, sit down, and refuse to leave. Starbucks" decision borders on insanity.

Just to keep my head wrapped around the subject - are you suggesting that two white guys getting tossed out would not have created a national issues? or that two white guys loitering would not have been asked to leave multiple times, and/or then ejected when they refused to leave or purchase products?

I am of the opinion that two white guys getting tossed would not have been a national issue as well as either they would have bought a cup or left when asked.

Harry is right on the mark. If there were white this would not have happened because they don't toss white guys. My wife and I stop into Starbucks when we tarvel for a break. There are always peopel sitting around working on their Apples doing school papers or just chatting. Maybe, they bought one cup and sit all day. They don't get tossed but they are also white or oriental. 

There is always a question if bathrooms in a store should be open to all. When you run in to pee and it says buy something first and you wet your pants...suddenly the right wants open bathrooms. It is like the question...How long is a minute? It all depends on which side of the bathroom door your are standing.

On that note you are wrong.  If I need to use the bathroom and they are only for paying customers and I am desparate I will buy something.  Did it several times in Europe and had no problem with it.  Only liberals think they have a right to other people's property so stop projecting your beliefs on the rest of us. 

As for people sitting around in a Starbucks all day and not buying anything I can't comment as I don't buy from them.  If they don't care then it's all good as far as I'm concerned.  And if they want to be invaded by homeless people and have people doing drugs in their bathrooms I still don't care.  I just find it amusing how they reacted to all this and as we have already seen they are walking back their open door policy before it even gets fully implemented.  Liberals are just so dumb and react on emotion and not on facts, logic and reason.  Had there been an adult in the room instead of a bunch of SJW's this would never have been an issue......but there wasn't one apparently.
