dont know if any of you attended but was a huge crowd--however--sure would be nice to hear music from the 60's, like Eagles, Smokey, Sam Cooke, vs. the heavy rock stuff--most 60+ agers were leaving early

We're "old" and they don't care what we would enjoy.  Last week, some young man compared me to his grandmother.

Perhaps that was a compliment?

Well, I actually think he meant it as one.  And who knows, I may be older than his grandmother.  But it was hard when young people started comparing me to their mother - so the "grandmother" comparison was a bit of a shock.  LOL.  In my mind's eye, I am still 25.  It's like hearing "your music" playing on a oldies station.  LOL

I find this thread hilarious! I wouldn't trade places with the youngans for no amount of life span!

no offense to 60+ aged people but don't they almost always leave everything early?

That's no barometer of a successful FREE public concert. When I was on the Jazz Fest committee I always told complainers that I'd personally give them a full refund if they didn't like the music.

I think the record crowds at the JF this year in AC and the Amp speak to the good choices in the bands.

That being said, I'm a lot closer to 60 than I am to 20 and like 1960 - 1980 music the best, hands down.

However, anyone who didn't like the music or had other complaints, I'd encourage you to volunteer on the Jazz Fest Committee in 2019. They'd appreciate the help and listen to your input.

Not all 60+ hit the sack at 7 pm; I did email the same comments to the events coordinator at the Chamber but received NO reply so I assume I would never be invited to be on the committee as my constructive comments evidently were not important enough for a reply

I always sit thru a realtors presentation when sellling or purchasing property. Do you find 60+ getting up and leaving early during your presentations?

I made what I considered constructive comments about the Farmer's Market hours, but did not get a reply either.  I have a feeling that they are not open to comments and suggestions by people outside the Alex City clique.  No offense to you John, but your family has been here forever and is one of the root families in this part.  The rest of us are "lake people".  There is a group in Alex City that is working very hard to make the downtown area viable.  Unfortunately, it is their vision and I don't think they are interested in outside suggestions.

I guess I always try to assume the best of people, but I can't help but think that anyone that volunteered to serve wouldn't be heard. I served on the committee for three or four years and we were always desparate to find volunteers. I am sorry if you had a bad experience, but if it's a subject that you're passionate about, I would encourage you to try and volunteer again.

Also I remember from being on the committee that the budget is razor thin. It's really hard to put on 2 shows for free. So anyone out there that is reading this, please consider being a sponsor. If you can't sponsor, please consider donating as a "friend of the fest" - I think they take any dollar amount, no matter how small. And trust me, it helps.
