Dump all your stock in internet sales companies!  Supreme Court just overturned their old ruling.  Local stores, mom & pops, malls, and groceries will make a comeback.  Amazon's big benefit just bit the dust....we all need to evaluate the supposed advantage of buying on line.  Is that extra 10% tax a killer for the “Prime” $120.00/yr.  I find most items less expensive on line than Amazon anyway these days, and without shipping costs.

I am surprised, you of all people, buy on line to save the tax. You should be supporting local business. I guess you are just all talk about Make America Great. Small businesses are the backbone of our country.

Could see this coming a mile.  States hate not getting their hands on more money.  Regardless  of the tax, I'll still use Amazon.

Seems to me that I get charged for taxes on Amazon already.  I use it because I can comparison shop for something in one easy place and I don't have to drive around.  That kind of convenience is what makes them successful and why Bezos is worth a gazillion dollars.  Other on-line vendors are mabe not so diligent and will be impacted.  I suspect over time people will adjust and on-line sales will continue to grow.  So if these stocks dropped it may be a good opportunity to buy assuming all their other business fundamentals are sound.

But it the brick and mortar retailers think this is their salvation they have another thing coming.

Currently, Amazon and all other ecommerce companies have to collect sales tax IF they have a physical location in the state. Actually, Amazon does collect sales tax on merchadise they sell. Amazon does not collect sales tax on items sold through 3rd parties. This will not have much impact on Amazon.

Amazon already collects sales tax in 45 states and DC. No impact there.

Yep.  Just ordered something from Amazon and they charged 8% sales tax, they have been doing for about 6 months, after reaching agreement with AL.  It'll be interesting to see how long small shippers on eBay, etc. take to start charging buyers.  If your goal is convenience then shop away on Amazon, but you could be saving money elsewhere.  Kinda like buying everything from Pubix!

My daughter manages a boutique at the Summit in Birmingham.  For her, the decision means maybe a few, number unknown, will ditch the marginal savings from shopping online for the personal attention they get in her store.  Caution, proud Daddy moment: within two months she took a failing store from the bottom of the heap to the third highest performer in a company of over 700 stores.  And it is that personal attention, making the customer feel like they have a personal relationship with the staff, that sells stuff.

I will often pay more for better service.  More people should learn that one.

That's a really good accomplishment. You have every right to be proud.

For me, customer service depends on what I am buying.  Before I moved here, I used to shop Nordstrom a lot, becasue they had such great customer service.  Lately, because of my fibromyalgia and knee issues, I shop more online than in brick and mortar.  But when I can, I try to shop local and enjoy the personalized service.
