Sun nite.  "One of the cooks is on a break" so no specials and slow service.

Food was OK though.

Restroom had no soap.  I hate to think of the cook and workers using the restroom with no soap.  Not good.

and Anchor Bay closed today--probably busiest week of the year, especially for $4.30 / gal gas sales

I understand 90% of marinas are closed on Mondays.

No specials because one of the cooks was on a break? How long was that break??

I am afraid someone must have given you some incorrect information if you were told there were no specials because of a cook being on break. I will explain the specials. Specials are only available when the owner is there and he creates them based on what he orders in for the week and they are served usually during our busiest times/days until they are gone at which time they are no longer availble. Regular menu is available always.

As far as the soap in the mens room if you just let someone know (usually the hostess or bartender) they will fix that for you. Unless we go in there we do not know it is out. Employees wash their hands in the employee hand washing sinks many many times throughout the day that are located in several places throughout the restaurant. Thank You for your feed back. I would like to know who told you that specials were not available due to an employee being on break.

Gee, thanks for that explanation. We didn't know how a special works. Now if someone would just explain to you how employee training works.

Unfortunatly employee training doesn't always fix everything with employees. These days people could care less about working. Staffing is always an issue with all restaurants. If you run a seasonal restaurant like we do then hiring new people for temporary jobs every year is always the case. Some people knowing its a seasonal job will not adhere to their training methods. And sometimes it's just simply a misunderstanding. I did speek to one of my new employees this past weekend who admitted she told a customer that we did not have specials and only had one cook at the time. If it were her that informed you that she was made aware that specials are not always available and why. Just to clarify a good rule of thumb is specials are mostly available on the weekends Friday during dinner and on Satudays during the busy lunch time and then again for dinner sometime after 5pm. If we don't sell out of everything on Saturdays from the specials we made available then we will have specials on Sunday as well. You can always give us a call and ask what specials are available and what time they will be available that day if they are. 334-857-3635

That was a waste of keystrokes and bandwidth. I came down for dinner once and have not been back, nor will I. IMHO if you weren't on the water  you would of closed years ago.

Now I see why people say they don't pay any attention to the comments about us on this forum and praise me on my responses. My husband and I work very hard and do our best. You are entitled to your opinion. Would you like to share your real name so we all know who your are? I presume you know who I am.

Most know who I am. I don't believe for a minute that folks come in and say they ignore this forum. There are far too many examples of this forum being used as a place for recommendations.. My experience was mediocre quality, high prices with horrible service and attitude you frequently whine about how hard you work, boohoo. You chose to open an eatery. Nobody forced you to do it. Then you have all the other side businesses that take time and attention. You should pick one and strive to make it the best of its kind around whining about how hard you work while insulting and arguing with your customer base is not a viable business plan. Your response is always the same toward criticism, you get defensive and attack. I say again, the only reason you are still open is because you are on the water.

P.S.- I also know a couple of folks that have worked for you and have heard from them how you treat employees/contractors and that is much worse.

Finally made the trek over to them Saturday with a group of friends.  Excellent is all I can say.  Five of us all had different meals and all were delicious.  Of course we started with the Bang Bang shrimp.  It was so good a second plate was ordered.  Service was great and the place looked great.  Of course I remember the old Boathouse Lounge days so it only had one way to go in the aesthetics department.  It definitely wont take so long to get back.

Is this above the one time you are referring to that you came to our restaurant? Copied from one of your older posts. looking back at my reply on this post I do not see where I was defencive at all to the customer. I refuse to continue to argue with you or defend myself with you and I myself do not know who you are so you can message me if that works better. Talking about someone and not letting them know who you are in pretty sad. My name is Jennie Zinn by the way in case you are wondering.

I never made that post. I am allergic to iodine and hence have never eaten shrimp in my life. Nice cut and paste though so now I k own you are a liar as well. Good job. My allergy is well documented and most of my friends know I don't eat shrimp as it has come up in conversation many times. The allergy was discovered at an early age during a medical procedure. My father had it also so seafood was not something we ate growing up. My number two sister shares this allergy also.

AGAIN, I HAVE NEVER ORDERED SHRIMP ANYWHERE. The one time I was there I had catfish. It was overpriced and over done

I remember a lot of discussion about the shrimp but I did not post that.

And BTW, I know who you are and most of the he regulars here know who I am. I am not hiding anything and I don't lie like you seem to.

I was doing my best to not add to this thread , but I have to say

a few things .  I believe in the forum and have supported it as a advertiser on this site for years .

And we as business owners have tried to take the negative posts and learn from them .

I have to say I don’t think this platform is a place to bash any business or person. Give you opinion and

experience and be done . What you are doing LIFER is just not write . I would have to think think most people would

agree .  I understand now why you have 6 members that ignore you .  And you can say you didn’t make the post Jennie

attached but it’s in your history .

It's not hard to find out information about people on here. The post that YOU made is under the lake martin topics. the one with the number 1048 beside it. All I did was click your name outside this thread and pulled up every post you ever made. There are several in there about how good we are but too far of a drive for you. Also a few about other restaurants and your dislikes about them and what they should or shouldn't do. So I guess either you are the liar, someone else posts under your name in reference to you, or you are unaware of what you say from time to time. Either way I am not a liar. I post facts.

I didn't bash you. I stated my opinion, if it runs counter to your business interest, well that sucks for you. Maybe you should consider that when you deal with folks. My dear sweet mother-in-law was treated very rudely on our visit.

Apparently you hit the nail on the head. My friend Scott would accasionally post under my name as a way to stir things up and mess with me. It was all in good fun.I did the same on a guitar forum he frequented like I do here. We knew each others passwords. I had a major surgery in Sept of 13 so it's possible he did it, but I can't ask because he passed away. He knew all about how my MIL was treated that night.

For someone who claims to work so hard you sure have lots of spare time to go reading all my posts. Which is not really all my posts because I started posting here in 1999.i suppose I made all the other negative posts about you through the years too. This post proves you to be a liar. You claimed you wouldn't post again about it but did. That is a lie by definition. You and your employees have a history of treating people rudely. Just because someone can cook doesn't mean they should own their own place. Prove me wrong. Open a place off water see how long you last..

And lastly, if you think pointing out my ignores and karma will bother me you really are clueless.

We know who will play Lifer in "Lake Martin forums: The Movie."

"It wasn't me, it was... a friend. Yeah, that's it, a friend. But you can't talk to him because... he died. Yeah, that's it, my friend died, the one who made posts using my name, but who died. Yeah, that's the ticket."

When you post about a restaurant, it should be okay to talk about your experience in specifics, if for no other reason that to alert the owner that you perceive a problem and maybe look into it.

But I have always found that the best way to deal with a restaurant where you percieve there are ongoing problems, is to just not go back.  Don't give them your food dollars and when revenues are down, they will be forced to deal with their problems or go out of business.  The customer perceives it from their point of view and the owner perceives it from their point of view.  It may be a case where they are spending their time on the wrong problems.  A colleague once gave me some sage advice - he said that employees will test you to see how low a standard you will accept and that's what you will get.  Training has to be reinforced  it is not just a one time thing.

I enjoy Harbor Docks. I go as often as I am at the lake but that is only every few weeks. Is it perfect? No. Is it one of my favorite places to go and also one of my familys? yes. Much of this is just destructive. I do not choose to participate beyond this one post.

I think everyone can give an opinion. Lifer seems to be focused on the negative. That is his right, but it loses me and I think destructive posts are not intended to be helpful anyway. Maybe he needs to weigh how good Harbordocks is compared to the limited (2-3) other oppotunities to eat ON the lake.

I'll continue to go.

And that is your choice.  Why not go if you like it?  Sometimes there is a bad experience at a restaurant that we otherwise enjoy.  It just depends what your priorities are.  I would never judge a restaurant on just one visit.

But every year, people post complaints about Harbor Docks.  And my only point is that if you don't enjoy going there, don't go.

My other point was to Overworked - I'm sure they do train their servers; however, it is not enough to just train them once, because no matter what you say, they will seek to find what you will accept and do that.  I have no doubts that it is very difficult to find good seaonal help.

I actually agree with your comments. I was more addressing the extreme comments of another poster that I considered inappropriate.

What started this was me stating MY opinion that if they weren't on the water they wouldn't exist. Apparently you pretty much fell the same way as you referenced the limited ON water options. As Hound pointed out every year there is one of these threads. Somebody complains and the owners attack them for it. I can't recall any negative threads about any kind f the other on water places or off water for that matter..

Every year they whine about how hard it is to get quality seasonal help. I don't buy it. None of the other eateries suffer from the unavailability of quality seasonal help. That would seem to be a problem with management, not the help. It is all about attitude and training.

Went to Harbordocks Saturday night with a group of friends.  The food and service was very good as usual.  Also, the young man playing the guitar and singing was entertaining.
