Hello Lake Martin Community!  I'm new to the lake, I bought last year in the dadeville area.  My family and I have loved being on the lake and making new friends although I have found it difficult to find good help, which is why I'm reaching out to you.

I need to get my dock and deck stained/sealed.  Can anyone recommend someone or a company that is fairly priced and shows up when they say they will?

Thank you in advance!

Jonathan G.

I have used Chris Zinn Lake Martin Services.

I have used him to stain my dock several times over last few years.

He can be hard to get in touch with this time of year.

I normally have him do it in the winter

Not a recommendation, but a suggestion to maintain the peace with neighbors.

When doing this be sure the contractor either lays catchment underneath or is VERY careful not to get stain/seal in the water. Even with that, you should consider visiting with your neighbor(s) in the direction water normally flows in your area so they can be sure to have any boats, PWC, etc. out of the water.

Having been on the receiving end of this, I promise you it is no fun trying to get brown stain off the hull of your boat after the yahoos hired next door have slopped a bunch in the water headed your way.

Buy some Thompson Water Seal, a roller, and a brush, and do it yourself. A reasonably-sized dock and pier can be done in a few hours, faster if one person mans the roller while the other follows with the brush. And maybe best of all, you can't apply it when the weather is too hot, which is a perfect excuse to not be working in the hottest part of the day.

Thompson's Water seal as reccomended by another member will not last long. You will have to reapply every year and the wood will darken. I have been very pleased with Woolman F&P.  Looks great and seems to last longer. I did not spray mine because of the waste and the drift to other places. I rolled some of it and used a stain pad for the rest. It was a long day job but looks great and seems to protect.
