Does anyone along the Coosa 20 corridor have any idea what is going on with the massive land clearing effort along Coosa 20, that extends onto Hilltop Rd and also some of Cedar Rd?  From what I can see they are also going further beyond what they have already done.  But I notice there are leaving stands of mature trees here and there.  I believe that property used to be leased by a hunting club.

Well, they are taking out some big pine logs.  I just thought it was odd, because I have never seen it done so extensively.

The downside of that type of logging, if it is logging, is that the gum trees will sprout everywhere and fill the land with useless trees.

Coosa County GIS Maps say that land is Alabama Power's. I suspect what they are doing is monetizing the land in a periodic forestation effort. It's not just pines as that forest had a lot of hardwoods also and we've seen log trucks with oak and maple logs. For years that land has had vehicles parked as if it was being hunted on (weekends during hunting season). 

I wonder if Alabama Power has their own power pole mill. They could harvest their own land in that effort.

It's sure making a mess out of already bad roads.  When the candidates for Coosa County were going around looking for votes, I would always ask them about the roads.  And almost always they said that there just isn't money for road repair.  I've already fixed the suspension on my SUV twice thanks to the potholes.  I wish AP would take it upon themselves to fix the roads when they are done.

Have you looked at your new property assessment for this year? Mine had been steady for maybe 8 years, but they just bumpted up the valuation about 20%. I ave not seen a tax bill yet but it is not going to be pretty. And Bywater road looks like Berlin after a pass by 250 Lancasters. Maybe they can then repair the road for $2000 in taxes???

Yes, it appears that my property assessment has jumped, so I expect a corresponding jump in property taxes.  If they would come around the lake and fix the roads, it would almost be worth it.  But no, I'm sure they will find some other use for it that has nothing to do with the lake.

 If the sweetgum trees come back as you predict it will be a great for the owner since it has been bringing 12 dollars a ton more than pine.
