Shooting, I keep reading that 19 and 20 year old snowflakes whimpering that "this was my safe place.  My parents let me come here.  I don't feel safe anymore".  How did these parents manage to raise a generation of wimps?  I understand it is upsetting, but do they realize that many of their age are serving in the armed forces and have seen their breathen killed?  And why is there so much PTSD among young military members?  Is it because they were never introduced to ugly reality.  Don't get me wrong - I want to see them get the help they were promished and that they deserve.

But constantly needing a "safe place"?  Fine for a 5 year old, but at 18.19, 20 and on - shouldn't we be smart enough to realize there are no "safe" places?  I thought that 9/11 would have convinced adults that no place is "safe" and teach that to these kids?

...if I would have been there.

Oh... wait... I couldn't have made any difference under California law.

You could have thrown some pretzels and peanuts at him, and aftwards they would have arrested you for assault with bar condements.

Very good comment, 'Tall'.  Just finished a book on the  'Donner Pass' tradegy in the mid 1800's.  From a perspective stand point, would be a good read for these kids (and parents)

You sure don't talk as if you know very much about the teachings of the humble carpenter from Nazarath.

Hound, you are right...there are NO safe places left.  Things are a lot different now that the gun to person ratio in America has reached 1:1!

Don't believe that ratio held at the Thousand Oaks nightclub.  Had it, there may have been a different outcome.

Has nothing to do with being a Christian or Christian teachings.  We have raised a generation of kids that always think they are supposed to be "safe"  and are way too dependent on their parents.  Yes, it is an awful thing to live through, and I wouldn't wish it on anymore.  But I am so tired of hearing about the need for a "safe place", and not being subjected to anything that makes you feel unsafe, feel bad or feel threatened.  There is no place that is safe.

And once again, people want gone control - despite California having the strictest gun laws in the country.  Didn't protect anyone.  When are we going to start talking about mental health and what to do about that???

Yeah I suspect it would have been different.  Common sense should tell you if every partially to fully pickled drinker in a crowded bar had been packing the toll would have probably been a lot higher!!

You can read it for yourself...it is all written out in the last 30% or so of your Bible.  Of course it is very obvious that most of this forum puts a lot more stock in the real scary parts of the front 70% of your Bibles!

Thanks to the media they all know how to do it… where to do it… and how to get a legacy (a brilliant flash... but then... darkness).

You obviously don't have a clue why folks get and maintain a concealed carry permit.

Too bad, with all the concealed guns, we don't read that often where one was used to take down a shooter. The problem is you can't bring one into a large gathering such as a club which defeats the NRA position of protecting with a firearm. The venue neutualizes anyone from protecting the crowd.

The requirement for a concealed weapon in California is basically the same as Alabama...

Normally it's a crime to carry either a loaded or an unloaded firearm in public in California. It doesn't matter whether you are carrying a concealed firearm or one that is openly carried.

Unless you have a CCW permit, publicly carrying a gun in California is against the law... period.

But you may be issued a permit to carry "a pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person" if:

  1. You are of good moral character;
  2. Good cause exists for issuance of the license because you or a member of your family is in immediate danger;
  3. You meet certain residency requirements; and
  4. You have completed an acceptable course of firearms training.

Under the recently enacted AB 2103, the training course must be a minimum of 8 hours and include live-fire shooting exercises where the person demonstrates an ability tio handle and shoot the gun safely.

You obviously do not understand that many (perhaps most) of us simply are not interested in being around people with loaded guns.  Statistics (FACTS) show that far more people die accidentally or from suicide from loaded guns than die in mass shootings.  I believe it is almost certain that one is less safe in a bar full of a bunch folks boozing it up while carrying loaded guns than in a similar situation without gun toters, loaded or otherwise.  I don't have the stats to prove it at my finger tips but I am sure they are out there.  It is fact that the vast majority of bar owners in areas of the country where open or concealed carry in bars is allowed still choose to prohibit guns on their property! That should tell us something.

A couple of years ago there was a lot of discussion of concealed carry in the Tallahassee Newspaper.  On the editorial page where readers are invited to make pithy and usually humorous comments someone submitted ''no one seemed the least bit concerned that I was carrying a concealed and loaded Glock in the Publix yesterday''.  The next addition had the reply ''If I had known the nut next to me had a loaded gun I would have been very concerned!''  You mat disagree, but that is the sentiment held by many millions of us!

As I have stated several times before, if we took all guns away from dimokrap and other commie liberals the gun death rate in the US would be reduced by 73.8%.....mainly by reduced suicides by deranged liberals.

The vast majority of CC folks (men and women) do so without ever revealing such.  They are well aware that having a loaded weapon present is disconcerting to many.  The sheep are extremely wary of the sheepdog because he has the same equipment as a wolf.

I would suspect that there is far more concealed carry going on than most folks realize. And, if they do… they go into denial.  As long as the sheep do not have to look at the “gun” they aren’t disquieted.

The majority of CC folks strap it on and then go normally about their lives (in public).  They do not focus on being armed… indeed, most CC holsters are designed for comfort as well as concealment.  The CC citizen has an awesome responsibility… that includes training and practice… and being realistic about their own capabilities.  For most, they will never have to resort to even revealing their weapon.  But… if your “ten seconds of courage” gets called up.  YOU have to make a decision.  Not having your weapon with you is a decision… that you made at the wrong time of day.

Buy an effective CC weapon that is right for your skill set

Get a proper CC permit

Get trained (preferably by law enforcement)

Practice, practice, practice

Never leave home without it

Keep it to yourself - Your weapon is not an extension of your personality… it is taking responsibility for your safety and that of those around you.

Maj I respect you and appreciate your comments and am sure you are a sterling example of the vast vast majority of consealed carry citizens.  It's that tiny minority who are not so responsibly inclined that scares the hell out of me!  Even with some of the responsible owners I still have a worry about how their personality changes when they get, in my grandma's words, ''likkered up''.  I am a responsible citizen but, on occasion find it a need to give the one finger victory salute when some A hole cuts me off in traffic...a tiny few otherwise ''responsible'' concealed carry folks have been known to use a more lethal weapon than their middle finger in similar situations!  Finally, I am sure I am often in the presence of a stranger who is a concealed carry individual without knowing it.  Fine, but I can recall a couple of situations when I became aware of such a presence and I immediately left the area and felt relieved to put distance between he and me!

It must be really unnerving to you to have to be constantly on the lookout for those around you who may be carrying a concealed weapon. Do you have any suggestions on what one has to look for when trying to identify someone carrying a concealed weapon?

I respect your apprehensiveness… as should ALL concealed carry permit holders.  And I would not burden you with it.  In Alabama… in public… you are seldom in the absence of CC.  Yet, you are able to calmly go out in public.  That is as it should be.

I believe it should be a crime to even brandish a weapon in public except when coming under threat.  I do not like open carry... it invites trouble.

Unfortunately, I know a couple of concealed carry holders who are capable of making your case (“cowboys”).  A useful statistic for you to know is that the crime among CC holders is half the crime rate of law enforcement officers.  Additionally, a concealed carry permit makes criminal behavior all the more aggravated… you carry a concealed weapon, you agree to a higher standard… AND more intense prosecution if it involves your weapon. If you shoot someone you WILL BE sued... even if you do so within the law.

A concealed carry holder who brandishes and/or discharges his firearm while enraged or intoxicated needs some serious time in the slammer.

Just a few days ago some nut (I bet he didn't have a CCP) in Birmingham started shooting up a McDonals. An armed customer took him out and probably saved a number of lives.

A number of years ago at a Shoney's in Anniston a gang tried to rob the place. They were trying to herd the customers into the freezer. One guy was armed and knew where that was going. He promptly broke it up and I heard he even went thru a magazine change!

I really believe one of the main reasons a mass shoot of people before themselves is that the shooter havs been hurting and has decided to take themselves out in a manner so bazaar every one will know about them and feel sorry. I really belive it is to get on T V.

If stations would report the event but do not reveal the shooters name or pictures and deprive him of the notarity he seeks. It would, I believe, eliminate one of the common motives for these. However, asking the media for restraint is a tall order.

I think I have heard stupid statements before, but Architect, you are right up there.  Please explain why you are okay around a concealed weapon but a non-concealed weapon scares you.  I always laugh when I hear people say seeing a gun in the open scares them.  Now, if we were in a store and I had my concealed weapon in my purse, but my purse opened and you saw it.... you would be okay with it as long as it was in my purse, but if you saw it, it would be wrong.

I am a LOT more concerned about a person who carries a concealed weapon without a permit than one who carries with a permit.  The former is far more likely to use the gun in an untoward way than one who subjects themselves to the background check required for the permit.  Reason? If they carry without a permit they already scoff at the law, but if they carry with a permit they take positive action to comply with the law.  As for your "many millions" claim, you unsupported exaggeration only weakens your argument.

i have no statistics to support the following claim but will be willing to bet a Krystal burger that there are far more concealed guns being carried than you would ever imagine and that the great majority of them are carried without permits.  If you truly knew how many are out there, based on your approach you would never leave your home.

He is not scared! Remember when told us his black neighbor has never scared or intimidated him. It is still one of the most racist comments ever made on this forum, yet he is too stupid to even realize it, even after it was discussed. But he is a liberal so he can't be a racist... Haha. Hound, I saw a gun in your purse I would make a quick exit.  With respect but in all seriousness, taking into consideration the complete 100% turn around in your political ''personality'' since you fell under the spell of Donald Trump, my concern would be amplified and reinforced!!.

I seem to recall that Architect made the comment you are referring to about his neighbor and several months after his post it was pointed out to him that he said he was never "scared or intimidated by his neighbor". Several months ago when asked about that post he denied having ever made such a comment. You have a good memory and with your long experience on the Lake Martin Website I think you can probably dig up that post.

If you ever had a CCW you would also know that it does not apply when intoxicated/impaired.

So no, Having a CCW and getting drunk does not  mean you can pack the magnum under your jacket and avoid penality of law.

it is also not legal to drive while drunk.  But, if you are killed by a drunk driver you are still just as dead!!

Just pointing out that a CCW does not give you a right to carry while intoxicated, and in most states you are not allowed to carry in a bar, and some even if a restaurant serves alcohol in it regardless if you are drinking.

The fact that you are scampering from Hounds neighhorhood because you fear her pistol laden purse or some other lawful CCW holder.  Sounds like a win for Hound and the neighborhood in my opinion - We just found a way to keep some vermin away.

It is also not legal to cross into the US illegally, but you do not seem to have a problem with that one, and before you say that illegals do not kill people you might want to do more research - just as not everyone likerd up drives drunk and/or kills people.

You are the weakest link ---
