What’s best way to get rid of mildew on wood porch ceiling? Looks like roof leaking but it’s mildew and ugly! It’s in some board but not in others.

Step one is to eliminate the source of moisture.  Anything you do other than that will only be temporary.  So get rid of the cause first and then you can clean the roof and repaint it with a product that is designed to protect against mold and mildew.

I agree.  Currently cleaning and painting the ceilings of my deck overhangs and using a weather exterior paint designed to prevent it coming back.  I will say that this year has been especially tough as to mildew and even my cenepede grass is being attacked by all sorts of bacteria.  Mushrooms galore too!  

I bought my paint from Lowe’s, sherwin Williams exterior weather beater paint.  I’ll let you know next year if it works.

Bleach will kill mildew.  But as others have pointed out, you must find out where the moisture is coming from on your porch ceiling.  I believe that there are additives that can be added to paint to discourage mildew.  Some outdoor paints may already have them in it.

Like others said find the leak. What I use to clean and kill mildew is;  In a 5 gal bucket pour 3 gal water- 1 gal bleach- 1 cup TSP- and 1 cup liquid laundry detergent. Stir it up till all the tsp is desolved in the mix. I use this for and mold or just as a cleaner, like my shower.I use this with my pressure cleaner on the wash setting. After using this let the surface dry and  then rinse thoroughy with clean water. You should be able to paint or stain after one treatment but if its a bad stain it might take more than one treatment. Make sure the surface your painting or staining doesn't have a residual powder from the tsp if so just wipe it with damp cloth. Hope this helps.

PS Please wear old clothes and hat with eye protection and rinse if any get on skin.
