The NYT?!?!?  They should put a disclaimer on their news that it may not actually be true.  But more to the point, that tax change really screwed them on the Senate......not.  What they suffered with the House is roughly comparable to historical losses.  And when you consider the govt media going all in with 24/7/365 relentlessly negative news it is a wonder they did as well as they did.  Now if you want to look at historic losses I refer you to Obama's first mid-term.  That is a wave.  This was a better than normal result.

Having said all that, I wondered before the 2016 election whether Trump would be the GOP's Obama with respect to a backlash.  Time will tell in 2020 and that is still a real possibility.

Richard Nixon was born and raised in Orange County, Calif. Ronald Reagan got his political fuel from there. In a state increasingly dominated by coastal liberals, Orange County was a conservative bastion with an ocean view.

Even as Democrats came to dominate California politics, Orange County clung on as a Republican stronghold.
