This means that sometime during the Illinois Glacial period (the one before the Last – the Wisconsin)… or during the last interglacial (warm; the Sangamon) nearly all species renewed themselves from a severely depleted gene pool.

If you really must know… an eruption from the super volcano, Yellowstone, could accomplish this mini-extinction.  The last time Yellowstone erupted was 650K years ago… at the end of the Nebraskan interglacial period.

Humans populated North and South America ~ 30K to 15K years ago before the Holocene (present) interglacial period.

Interesting observation from the Mt. St. Helens eruption.  My uncle is a wheat farmer in central Washington.  When it blew there was real concern about the ash covering already planted fields.  Turned out they had a bumper crop that year.  They think the ash sealed in moisture and provided additional nutrients.  Not saying that would be the result if Yellowstone went off but it seems like a certain amount of ash isn't always a problem and may actually be beneficial.

However, photosynthesis depends on sunlight and warmth.  Temperatures below 40F are dangerous for leafy vegetables and all fruits. Freezing destroys cell structure in many agricultural species.)  Fortunately for humankind, some species are adapted to low temperatures.

Long term global cooling and warming cycles have occurred for hundreds of millions of years.  Yes GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE is normal.  There are the cyclical variations in solar output.  There are non-cyclical volcanic events which have a direct effect on global climate change.

Mt. St. Helens erupted during a solar maximum (slightly less than 160 sunspots).  Thus we had a thin, nutrient rich volcanic ashfall accompanied by a warm growing season.  Had the ash layer been thicker, the smothering effect would have been catastrophic.  Had the ashfall occurred in 1996 during a solar minimum (15 sunspots) there may also have been a temperature problem.

But, it is MUCH more complicated than that.  “It is not simply, the sun or CO2 when looking at global temperatures, it is the Sun, volcanoes, tilt of the Earth’s axis, water vapor, methane, clouds, ocean cycles, plate tectonics, albedo, atmospheric dust, Atmospheric Circulation, cosmic rays, particulates like Carbon Soot, forests and land use, etc. Climate change is governed by hundreds of factors, or variables, not just CO2.”  - Philip Stott, University of London, 2008*

that chart is amazing!  So we are in for a very cold winter before a period of warming.  What does not seem logical is the inability to predict eruptions yet they predict a warming period beginning 2019 to 2038?  Anyway, the only entity that can and does influence/control climate is not of this world.  He will decide when. 

btw, why isn’t this chart and info more public and discussed?

Carlson – “btw, why isn’t this chart and info more public and discussed?”  - This type of explanation, when presented by a scientist, requires more than 30 seconds to explain.  The information and data are ALL public (unlike that for Anthropogenic Global Warming, AGW).

For example: Milankovitch Cycles - “The episodic nature of the Earth's glacial and interglacial periods within the present Ice Age (the last couple of million years) have been caused primarily by cyclical changes in the Earth's circumnavigation of the Sun. Variations in the Earth's eccentricity, axial tilt, and precession cause… taken in unison, create alterations in the seasonality of solar radiation reaching the Earth's surface. These times of increased or decreased solar radiation directly influence the Earth's climate system, thus impacting the advance and retreat of Earth's glaciers.” 

The Earth wobbles… like a spinning top as it slows.  That means that the Earth’s axis does not always point at Polaris… the “North Star.”  At some point, our “North Star” will be Vega. What effect does THIS have on the global climate change?  Scientists can put you to sleep in 5 minutes with the explanation.  But… just in case you are interested:

During 2018 there were no sunspots visible on the sun for 60% of the time. The last solar maximum of 2012-2015 was the weakest since the space age began.  What does this mean?  Well, combine this (well documented and studied) observation… with a little history

and the Milankovitch Cycles… and draw your own conclusion.  I might also remind you that the warmest time in our current interglacial period was 8K years ago.

The real truth lies in the effort to separate us from our money.  The very idea that man can influence the climate is humorous to God.

Subject:	ah... but herein lies the REAL problem

Actually, man can have a miniscule effect on the climate.  It’s just not CO₂.  Please recall the chlorofluorocarbon insult a couple of decades ago.  Any effect humans have on the climate will be unperceivable in the galactic span of geological time.  Like passing gas at the football stadium.

However, we have undoubtedly crapped our own bed… and we started from the moment God gave us opposable thumbs. 2.5% of all the water on Earth is freshwater.  Less that 1% of that is available on the surface.  There is NO surface water… fresh or salt… anywhere on Earth that does not contain impurities exuded by mankind and his activities… and a goodly percentage of groundwater too.   

Man has been able to rearrange molecules from the earth… both common and rare… into deadly substances which threaten not only himself… but, all other living things.

In the face of our destruction of myriads of living species… ha ha… we’ll be one of the shortest lived of all species.  But first we will kill off all of the frogs.

In the end, the time of humans will be a thin layer of plastic, glass, metal alloys, and strange chemical compounds.  Through the mechanisms of plate tectonics, even that will be erased in a few tens of millions of years.  Days will be longer, the earth will wobble even more, glaciers will come and go (diluting our polluted waters*)… and the sun will shine brightly in the sky.  Cockroaches will rule the earth.
