Wonder what Trump would tell this woman???  Guess he would ask first..."Did you vote for me?"  Wonder if she raises the money or dies first. What do you think???

"After rejecting a 60-year-old woman's request for a heart transplant for lack of "a more secure financial plan," Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spectrum Health recommended that she start a $10,000 fundraiser to come up with the money, according to a Detroit Free Press report.

The recommendation came via a Nov. 20 letter from a nurse with Spectrum Health's Heart & Lung Specialized Care Clinics. In the letter, the nurse told Hedda Martin of Grand Rapids that the multidisciplinary heart transplant committee determined she is "not a candidate at this time for a heart transplant due to needing more secure financial plan for immunosuppresive medication coverage."

Immunosuppresive drugs help prevent a person's body from rejecting a new heart or other transplanted organ. The nurse also told Ms. Martin the transplant committee "is recommending a fundraising effort of $10,000."

He would probably tell her to go to Gonefishin, that he made a lot of money in the insurance industry and could write her a $10K check in the blink of an eye and put his money where his mouth is.

What the hell does Pres. Trump have to do with this woman’s situation?  If anything, this is o-BAMMIE’s baby.  He is the one who screwed up healthcare for most US citizens.  Reckon that wonderful $6,000 deductible in o-BAMMIEcare is the problem?

My mother was a transplant candidate 20 years ago.  I remember part of her admittance to the transplant list was that you had to have sufficient insurance or personal resources.  The need for organs exceeds the organs available, so it makes sense to give the organs to the people that can pay for the anti-rejection drugs, that they will be on the rest of their lives.

This made for a very sad story about this woman, but it sounds like she was going through the admittance process.  (you also have to have a complete and I do mean complete, physical, because nothing else can be wrong with you, other than your failing organ).  I'm sure the nurse meant well in suggesting she put up a "go fund me" campaign to amass the money she needs.  Who knows if that is the only reason she was rejected?  No one wants to see anyone die, because they can't afford the treatment. But a single payer insurance provider would not make the drugs cheaper or organs more readily available.  We all have to die at some point and it has only been since the 1970s that they have been doing transplants.  Feel bad for all those that died before there were even the possibilites for transplants, and for those that are on the transplant list, but don't get an organ in time.  There are no guarentees.

This is reality.  Just getting on the list does not mean you will get the organ you need before you die.  My mother was fortunate to be called for lung transplant, but unfortunately, she passed away during the surgery.  All the steroids that she had been on had left her arteries weak.  In case you don't know, there is also an age limit of 65.  There was an experimental program to give people older than that less primo organs, but I do not know that it ever got off the ground.

We all like a happy ending and in our dreams, everyone would get everything they need to live a long and healthy life.  But that isn't reality.  I would never say anything bad about the transplant program.  Those people are so completed dedicated and do everything in their power to make it an impartial program.  But the anti-rejection drugs are a fact of life and their expense is extraordinary.

I am an organ donor and when I die, I have given my permission for them to take anything they can harvest to give someone a shot at life or a shot at recovery.  Are you an organ donor?

Yes... if it comes down to it.  I shall live on in some one... or some others.

Mlive reported that a Facebook post on Martin's Facebook page – since taken down –said that Spectrum wanted to make sure that she could pay the $700 monthly cost of the anti-rejection drugs, considering that her health insurance plan has a $4,500 yearly deductible.

Martin's son, Alex Britt, set up a GoFundMe page that, as of late Sunday afternoon, had raised more than $12,400 for the anti-rejection medication.

The page says Martin has life-threatening congestive heart failure as a result of damage to her heart from 2005 chemotherapy for breast cancer.

"The heart transplant team met and decide that mom needed to fund-raise $10,000 to be considered for a new heart," the son wrote. "The transplant team does not want to 'waste' a vital organ if she cannot afford heart rejection drugs."

Well, looks like she was able to raise the 10K that will help cover her yearly insurance deductable for a few years.  Welcome to the reality of what happened when Oblamer care took over.
