We've done a lot of good and we've done a fair amount of politically expedient (like supporting the Shah of Iran, and Noreaga, then dropping them like a hot potato), arming the guerillas that became Alcada, and then dumping them.  Ignoring the genocide in Ruwanda, but rushing into the genocide in Bosnia/Hertzogovenia)  We have done a lot of nation building after WWI and WWII, but ouor past is not unblemished.

   If you do great things sometimes they will not work, turn and bight you. Predicting the future is chancy at best but mostly our intent was good. Sorry they didn all work out. America has been, in spite pf her faults, a beacon of freedom !

I agree that the U.S. is a beacon of freedom, but we have a tendancy to what is expedient, instead of considering the long term consequences.  Unfortunately, a lot of the bad ideas comes from the CIA and the State Department.
