as 2018 ends-my hopes for a kinder FORUM are diminished-the posts on this formum continue to be spiteful, rude, hateful, almost un -American--guess some just want our country to be divided and/or just dissolve-; I strongly urge the WEB MASTER to apply some discretion to some of the posts that serve no useful purpose other than to spew discord & hate; after 5 years, I think I've had enough of the OFF_TOPIC Forum-life is too short to continue to read negative opinions--

I don't post as much or look as often as I used to.  I do find that the Forum is more enjoyable when you use the ignore function.  Just block the ones that bug you the most and it becomes more tolerable.

I agree and marvel at the strength of TDS.  I try to view most posts as humorous regardless of which party affiliation of the poster.  Otherwise it could depress the reader.  Life is too short!  Read and laugh works great!

In my increasingly crotchety manner, I've tried to include some of my rather dry humor in quite a number of my posts, especially when replying to certain posters on the forum.  I don't see that having formal debates on issues with them has any beneficial results. I wasn't on the debate team anyway.  So lighten up everybody and enjoy a sip or two of Black Jack or a little Wild Turkey or Rebel Yell if you want to get real frisky and daring.  Happy New Year to all!

If it gets too over-the-top, I just move on. 

Sometimes I stop to ponder “why would someone say something like that” or “how can someone harbor so much animosity.”  In most of those cases, the writer is demonstrating “displacement behavior”… also known as “acting out” (in a child).  They do not know what to say… or do… so, they say or do something else which conveys emotional stress and/or confusion. Epithets are often symptomatic of an inability to understand the opposing argument… or inability to express one’s own argument.

I have a relative who is very intelligent but, has become so cynical that she cannot hold any job where she has to interact civilly with others.  She has often expressed how crooked or corrupt are her bosses, co-workers, doctors, insurance agency… etc. And so, she treats others as if they are indeed “out to get her.”  Things have not gone well for her because of this.

Our forum has its share of cynics.

Also… look to see what time of day in which the post was written.  It says much about the writer’s circadian status at the time of composition (and, also if they’ve had too much to drink). A politically driven individual will compose more strident discourse immediately after watching… say… Madam Secretary - more strident than watching… say… a Hallmark movie.

I truly believe that people are watching too much television… and are having trouble managing their suspension of disbelief.  They may be turning off their television… but, they did not turn off their suspension of disbelief.  These people have difficulty discerning the difference between creative license and reality.  There is only so much truth you can fit into 30 second sound bites and still keep the viewer’s attention.

My advice… I am pretending that you are asking:

- Do not block anyone

- Do not suppose that Karma is something YOU can assign

- Understand expression for what it is (mine included, thank you).

and just say Happy New Year...and Good Health in '19.....and loosen up guys....it is just opinions....some you like...some you dislike...some I like....and some I dislike. It is an open forum...some stay...some leave...and some leave and return.

Don't get your hopes up for the conservative abandoning of Trump just yet.  Romney is leader of the uniparty, Never Trumpers, Bush clan who decided that since Trump never paid his dues to the "CLUB", he was not entitled to his office.  Trump tapped into the Tea Party magic, made it work and morphed it into MAGA.  Romney is no conservative and is now being bashed by his neice, who happens to be the head of the RNC.  So fun watching Never Trumpers implode.
