“…The “doom and gloom” narrative of our government shutdowns are pure fiction.  All employees receive back pay and major services are still provided.  Social Security checks are still sent on schedule and our military is paid.  Schools still function without the Department of Education.  Law and order continues to be administered without a full complement at the Department of Justice.  And we’re still able to fill up our gas tanks despite the Department of Energy operating with furloughed staff.  The sun still shines and private sector employees continue to generate economic value for the country, day in and day out…”

I urge you read the whole article.

Well... the poor little darlings WILL get paid.  But, meanwhile they are not using electricity and paper and fuel... and generating other peripheral costs to the taxpayer.  Just like the Greeks, we find out who is paid by government just to be present.

Hmmmm... I am not sure that park rangers are non-essential.  Some folks just don’t know how to behave.  We should have locked the gates to our national treasures.

Tell it to the crew member of the USCG who makes the next rescue of a wealthy sport fisherman in the Gulf or the TSA officer you encounter the next time you board and airplane.  It is typical that the likes of Mr Skypek and the Lake Martin crowd is going to assume that, like them, all Federal workers have a 6 or 7 seven figure (hell, probably 8 or 10 figure for MM!) easily accessed cash cushion to draw from when they go a month or so without pay.  Well here's another fact for you, they don't!!

I did read the article which makes some valid points bisected with a lot of BS.  What Mr. Skypek and some consider non-essential would become essentially essential PDQ if they went away without replacement.  Now if you want to talk about contracting even more jobs to for profit corporations let's have the debate!  Are TSA and the Coast Guard non-essential?  How about CDC and NIH and FDA...shall we hand them off to a firm listed on the Dow?  After all Mr Skypek and Maj, none of them are mentioned in the constitution.  But I digress....

My post in repsonse was not to the article but to the jist of your post as stated in the paragraph below the link...namely ALL furloughed employees will get back pay (with condescension by the Maj...''the poor little darlings will get paid''). My question, who pays the rent/mortgage and power bill and who buys the gas to get the TSA worker to the airport while they are waiting weeks (''months or years''? per Dear Leader) for the back pay?

All federal workers (furloughed without pay and working without pay) will eventually get their back pay (hope it is before foreclosure)...I agree.  Your statement and my agreement with it does not pay their bills!  Further, there is no guarantee federal contract workers employed by private firms will get paid.  Not a good image to run up the flag-pole if we plan to try to ''privatize'' more ''non-essential'' federal functions!

BTW: The last 2 lines of your initial post is the most eye opening and, shall we say,''informative'' statement in the whole message!
