Anyone have any idea why so many trees on Manoy Creek and nearby Youngs Landing area have apparently been cut by a chainsaw and allowed to fall into the lake?  It seems a little hazardous to do this intentionally!

I noticed all the trees too.  I assume it’s for crappie fishing and was probably done illegally.

They also nailed Mad Wind, big time.  Probably assist fish habitat, but seriously doubt Alabama Power is too happy.

Go to the next page of posts, to 1/23, and see the string about Madwind Creek.  Same perps?  Whether legit or not, I wouldn't think all that vegetation would be good for water quality.

I had someone tell me that Alabama Power did it to promote fishing?  Don’t know if that is true but it sure makes the look of the beautifully wooded shoreline an eyesore now!  Looks so bad and is dangerous.  If a kid falls off of an innertube or something near them it is going to be bad!  These are NOT SMALL trees, they are really tall so they go pretty far out into the water!

There is such a high concentration of stripers in that area it could be that they were cut to make cover for the fish. Just a guess omh part. tn

Good point, luv. I helped recover a drowning victim about 30 years ago. Sounds like the same situation as this. People dont realize that the branches underwayer stay intact long after the branches above water have broken off. They speculate the victim had tried to swim under what looked like a smooth log and he got tangled in the branches underwater and drowned.

As soon as I posted my Las message I decided to take the dog for a ride and since I only live a few minutes from the shoreline mmgt office I decided to ride by and talk to them. It is indeed a DNR project, not APCO or rednecks. They did have to give permission for the project since it is on APCO land. It is definitely a fish habitat/cover project. The young fellow, I've forgotten name already, said he has had several calls/emails about it. So everyone please stay calm and remember virtually nothing happens on the lake APCO doesn't know about. Enjoy the summer.

APCO had absolutely nothing to do with it other than giving permission for the DNR to do what they needed.
