Two fellows drove up to my house out on Pace’s Point seeking a $40 donation in support of what I believe they said was for the Tallapoosa Fire and Rescue. They looked legit: drove up in a personal automobile that had red striped fire and rescue tag on the front, flashed a document describing the group, and wore fluorescent orange t-shirts. They were asking for a donation for my support “again this year”. I don’t recall donating last year, so I said not this year. Does anyone know if there is a campaign going on right now for this group?

All I've ever heard of them doing is trying to look the fireman part and collecting money from unsuspecting lake folks.  You did the right thing.  Yes, I think their trailer is iin Jackson's Gap.

When people like that show up, I ask them to put their request in writing or tell them that you will send a check to the Fire Department. These people prey on the public's gratefulness for the services the Fire Departments provide.   If you feel like you want to donate, send the check directly to the Fire Department.
